Can depression be linked to late periods?

Hi,

I finally just got my period today but it's about 10 days late and a few days before today I've been extremely depressed. I was diagnosed as severely depressed a year ago but got some treatment but the way I was depressed this time was just like before but worse. I didn't eat for 2 whole days but not cause I didn't want to. I tried eating but no food was appetizing enough. They all made me feel nauseous. I also haven't slept for 2 nights lol I took a 4 hour nap (2 hours 1 day & 2 the other) but its weir ding me out because I'm laying in bed now trying to sleep and I've been trying to sleep since 11pm and it's now 5am and the sun is up and I'm wide awake. I've been getting that butterfly feeling in my gut, u know, like that feeling u get when you're really sad. I've also been abnormally and freighting my aggressive and angry at everyone and everything. I want to understand why this is happening. Is it related to my period? This has never happened before. I just want a good night's sleep & 1 good meal & to feel happy :/

Stress, depression, and your menstrual cycle may all be linked but what is causing what may be a bit more complicated.  My cycle causes my moods to go absolutely wild.  I'm all over the board with sad, mad, irritable, etc.  I eventually got diagnosed with PMDD and put on meds that were a lifesaver.  My friend on the other hand, has clinical depression and when she is having a bad time, it can cause all kinds of menstrual issues.  I highly recommend going to a doctor and getting both a physical and a mental evaluation to determine what would be the best course of treatment for you.

Have you talked to a doctor or just find somebody you can vent to ! Because stress and depression has made my cycle come a week late and even skip an entire month! But now I'm dealing with my feelings better so its regular timing now! And make sure you track your cycle because it could have changed due to stress and depression!
