EXTREMELY HIGH PROGESTERONE LEVELS IN A WOMEN

My Sister was recently told that she had extremely high progesterone levels.  she is 61 - what could cause this and is it dangerous?

Thank you for your responce.  No she isn't pregnant, she had her tubes tied many years ago.  The ovarian cancer is what scares me as our family history isn't very good in that department.  Another sister of ours and I both had to have hysterectomy's in our early 40's.  She has a follow-up scheduled with her Doctor so I will pray all turns out well.

Is she pregnant? That would be one cause for it. Others would be:
    * Some ovarian cysts
    * Non-viable pregnancies known as molar pregnancies
    * A rare form of ovarian cancer
    * Overproduction of progesterone by the adrenal glands
    * Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH)
