Thank you for responding to my post, Aquarielle. Unfortunately I can't call the gynecologist as she is very busy. However, I will call my family doctor and ask her some questions about the amount of medication. My husband will be going with me to the appointment and he will be driving. We are planning to go back home after the procedure so I can rest if I need to.
The endo biopsy as my doctor is calling it is to rule out cancer. She didn't elaborate what kind of cancer. The ultra sound revealed the possible presence of an endocervical polyp. Most polyps like this are apparently beneign, but she just wants to do the biopsy to make sure everything is okay. This doctor who I was referred to by my family doctor is a obgyn and
she has an extremely busy practice. My doctor says she's lovely and a very good doctor. My own doctor is great and if she says it , it's true.
Thank you again for responding to my post. I will follow your suggestions.
I didn't take any pain medication prior to my endocervical biopsy-- I may have, but the appointment was expected to be an exam, only. I felt some discomfort, like menstrual cramps, but nothing much. My doctor said that patients usually don't experience much pain. The procedure, itself, took only about a minute.
I'm guessing that it could be expected to hurt more depending on why the procedure is being done. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to take more than your doctor suggested but if I were you, I'd call to say that I had concerns about pain during the procedure and want to double-check on whether the suggested medication will be sufficient. Maybe he'll recommend taking a little more, if it's necessary.
Are you driving yourself to and from the appointment? I say this because sitting in the car afterward was a little uncomfortable. I could have driven safely, but I'm glad that I had a ride since sitting in a slouched position (resulting in less pressure on the cervix) was less uncomfortable. If you're able to go home and rest after it, should you want to, that might be good to arrange; I don't know where you'd otherwise be going, but sitting in an office chair could be uncomfortable. Good luck!
