Hormonal imbalance???

Hello, I'm hoping to shed some light on an issue that I've been dealing with recently...I've never been a "hyper" person...nothing has changed in the way of my personal or professional life...but my menstrual cycle has been a little off in the past 6 months. I just turned 30 and have never been pregnant I do get regular menses BUT now I seem to have really bad PMS. irregular bleeding (spotting between menses), I am tired but at the same time feel extremely hyper, like i could run a marathon upon awakening in the morning, I wake up frequently and suddenly during the night...and all of this is not limited to my cycle...it just won't stop, it's like this all month long, all the time and it's wearing me out. I can't take "hormones" in the traditional medical sense as I have tried low dose birth control in the past and have suffered a mini-stroke...am very sensitive to any pharmaceutical drug i take. I'm not exactly sure what's going on but I feel like I'm going crazy! Sounds like a hormonal imbalance to me....can you please help me? Thank you!

Thank you, specialmom for your reply :) My own mother suggested I have my thyroid checked as well...thyroid issues seem to run in the family. I will definitely mention this to my doctor.

Hi there and welcome to the forum!  Sorry you are having a rough time of it.  I would agree that it very well could be hormonally related.  Have you had your thyroid checked?  As the thyroid is directly related to hormones, this could be the culprit for some of what you describe.  Too fast or too slow, the thyroid can cause problems.

Have you set up a physical or work up by your ob/gyn??  I really would at this point.

I had hypothyroidism in my late 20's and was producing too much estrogen.  I had an odd cycle but more in lines of absense of periods and bouts of pms that would last 3 months (my poor loved ones!).  It self corrected.

This may sound odd, I'd also get regular moderate exercise.  Seems to really help my thyroid.

But I'd say your best bet is to be seen by your doctor and begin trying to uncover why you are having these symptoms.  good luck
