I'm having long n light period

Hi everyone ! I'm in my 26. I'm now having my period more than 20 days. last year i took birth control pills till December. Start from 2013 Jan , i stopped taking pills cos me n my husband both want baby. After that, I had my period from Jan to May regularly but start from June my period was on n off . It was like I only had my period on July and missed on August and again had it on September 5th and missed on October. So, i thought i could have my period on Nov. But I only had it start from 16th Nov but it was only spotting.  After that , stopped a few days. Before i had my period i've already tested for pregnancy twice , both were negative. After stopping a few days, on Monday, 25th Nov , Bleeding very lightly again. So i went to family doctor on Wednesday and he just suggested me to take the birth control pills again for three months. But that late afternoon i was having my period again until now. But It is very light , even a panty liner is enough for a day. but firstly my discharged were brown and dark brown ,since from this Wednesday it's like normal color but still light bleeding. I really don't know what to do !  Really sorry for long question :(

Thank you so much for your advice, dear. I went to a gynaecologist this Monday and he gave me some medicine to stop bleeding. He also suggested me to take ultrasound scan via vagina not on tummy. Should i have to try ?

HI,
Birth control may not be ideal as you want kids and pills will prevent this. Also it is necessary to find out the cause of the irregular and scanty bleeding. This can be because of PCOS, ovarian cysts, hormonal factors, endometrial changes or anaemia. Hence a general as well as pelvic evaluation is necessary. An ultrasound scan should also be done as this will help make the diagnosis. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
