Info on Group B Strep Please!

I just recently got diagnosed with Group B Step. I'd really like to know more about it. From what I've been looking up it mostly effects pregnant women and newborns, I don't fall under either of those catagories. My doctor said that it most likely happend from having sex with my (monogomous)partner. He's been away, at war, for about 10 months and when he came home we obviously were trying to make up for lost time in the sex department. About two weeks from the time we started having sex again I started to get symtoms similar to that of a yeast infection. (which I sometimes get) I noticed though that the symptoms were stlightly different, which concerned me, usually when I get yeast infections, I'll have some discharge with minimal itching. This time there was little discharge and the itching was through the roof. So, I went to the doctor and they tested me for a bunch of different STDs and baterial infections as well. I didn't have any STDs and she said that this GBS isn't serious and she put me on a antibiotic supository.I'd like to know more about GBS.  I know that it can go back and forth between two people from having sex. I realize it's not the same thing as when you have strep throat, but is it possible that because my boyfriend was sick while preforming oral sex on me I got this GBS? Or, is this strictly a genital thing. Also I know it can effect the anal area too, which I think it may have, will that be cleared up with the antibiotic supository that she put me on? Is this likely to come back again? Are there things I can do to prevent this from happening?

a question............
to those who have used lavender oil,  how is this taken?
Orally?
Vaginally?

I have started and am in my 10th day of the many items:
bee propolis and so much more........
even went on a complete fast except supplements.
am going back onto food gradually now.
I didn't eat a lot of sugar in the first place, but carbs were more
of my ugh/sin or whatever the term is.
thank you

I was told I had strep b today. I have not received any treatment or information about it, just told not to worry. It all started over a month ago. I had itching, burning, swelling and clear watery discharge when swabbed everything came back normal. 2 weeks later the symptoms started again but worse and my discharge has been brown and greenish. I'm really frustrated as me and my partner are trying for a baby and haven't been able to as sex (when symptoms have cleared) is very painful. Would using balance activ help?

I have been treated for strep b for several years on and off since I started the menopause.  The infection seems to be triggered by my infrequent periods. My now retired GP treated this successfully with antibiotics and always took me and my symptoms seriously and up until last year this treatment worked.

Last year the infection reappeared and the GP's at my local practice who were unfamiliar with my history failed to take my situation seriously. My normal GBS symptoms progressed from a discharge with odour, to containing blood and then intense pelvic pain on the left side.  The infection started in April and in June I was rushed into hospital with a sceptic ovary which was removed. The only thing they ever found when they took the swabs was a heavy growth of GBS.

I now have another infection and I have all of the same symptoms back. I'm not sure what will happen next as the course of antibiotics I have been prescribed has not worked.  I will try the BV treatment that someone suggested.

My advice to anyone reading this with GBS symptoms is don't be fobbed off with the 'it lives naturally in women' line.  If the BV treatment works I will post it on this site.

Seriously...read what  you are writing. If a baby can contract it in the VAGINA get sick and die does it make sense to you that it can cause sickness and symptoms? It is not NORMAL to have a substantial amount of GBS in the vagina or anywhere for that matter .It migrates from the intestines via the rectum  quite easily as it isn't a far distance;) If one cultures positive for GBS and nothing else and IF they have symptoms as have been listed like burning itching, discharge then clearly it is being caused by the GBS. If on the other hand one has not been cultured or tested for STD's and bacteria then one should do that not self diagnose. GBS does not always present problems or symptoms but it can and does. Occasionally it will even cause stomach problems if the good bacteria in the stomach is not as it should be. Continued antibiotic treatment in the NON-pregnant woman may not always be the best solution. If antibiotics haves been tried and it is not working there are many natural ways to balance the flora in the vagina. Most importantly balance the bacteria in the gut in the long run if long term results are desired. Here are some suggestions from previous posts.
Bee Propolis
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Super Echinacea
PH-Basic (plant caplet to regulate PH- 5 a day)
Vitamin C (1000mg) - might be one tablet
Colloidal Silver (only once a day)
Vaginal flora supplement
Probiotics with  L. plantarum
Allicin Max (garlic)
organic lemon water first thing in the morning
garlic daily may be eaten or inserted in the vagina
Aklaine diet http://www.squidoo.com/PHrevolution
Wash the vaginal are with Hibiclens or Lactacyd
