Kidney cancer

I am a 49years old female and had an ultra sound that showed two lesions on my rt kidney.  One lesion is 5-6 cc and the other on is 3-4cc.  Doctor said they are stable and follow up with another ultra sound in one year.  I feel this is too long to wait and something else should be done.  What causes lesions on kidneys?  What other test should be done to make sure this isn't cancer?
