MRI and pregnancy

I had to see a neurologist today concerning the light spots (aura) I see, my left hand going numb, and the headaches.  He ordered radiology to do a CT scan.  After waiting, and finally getting in the room, the tech asked if there was a chance that I am pregnant.  I said Yes, 18 weeks.  Long story short, radiology felt that an MRI would be safest.  So, I did the MRI.

I am second guessing everything the dr. said, since he ordered a test that his OWN hospital REFUSED to perform on me as a result of my pregnancy.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge w/MRI's or CT scans during pregnancy?

Yes, thank you.  I was scared from the beginning, and I'm not sure why I didn't just call my ob/gyn to get his opinion.  Again, thank you for your info.

yup I am an mri tech and I will tell you why they did that.  CT scan use radiation that can be harmful to the fetus and are only done on pregnant patients unless medically necessary.  MRI use a magnetic field which mean no radiation and completely safe for a fetus.  We often wait after the second trimester just for saftey precautions but I have been preggo with 2 kids and worked in mri all teh way to deliver and my kids are completely safe.  Dr sometimes forget the obvious things and maybe it was just a  mistake he/she made ordering the CT hopefully I helped some

i am 7 weeks today, time is flying! im not bad, feel sick here and there all day but i havent puked lol. just tired!! what is it that you are seeing? when i was pg with my son at the end and after i retained lots of water. i would see black spots. hundreds and hundreds of black spots. i still do , a little less, when i retain water during the month. you still have such a long ways to go. and your arm goes numb? did they have a thought of maybe why? someone else i thought was having this problem, or was it you? my arms go numb, but it did that before i was pg. mine is due to needing a massage!! i cant wait until i am out of my first trimester, im getting my shoulders worked on!!but i dont suggest you doing that until you know what is going on.

Tell me about it, just dealing w/it gives me a headache!
It is so hard to get a second opinion, since it is not easy to get a neurologist to see a pregnant woman.  If they do, they won't get you in for weeks.  Luckily, this time, I called just in time as a cancellation came in.  It wasn't even very close to my house.  I can't stand this!  I'm going nuts!!!!!!!

How are you feeling???
