My first doctor wouldn't put me on this. My second doctor did, but only because I wanted to get pregnant, and I didn't ovulate on my own. It is really a fat blocker. My grandmother takes it for part of her diabetes treatment. We both have trouble with it. It causes stomach pain, frequent trips to the bathroom that are usually very inconvient. If you have read the side-effects of Alli that just came out, they are similiar. But it is supposed to be used to help your body not absorb the fat you eat, which helps with the insulin resistance from the PCOS, which will help regulate your hormones, and hopefully your cycles. I had to stop taking it because it was hard to work and be on the med. Plus, you have to take a lot of it. I was taking 3 or 4 day. If you ovulate on your own, you probably don't need it.
There are several possible side effects of this drug. The dr, knowing all of your history, would make the decision and weigh out the good vs bad. Sometimes the bad side effects are worth the risk. Sometimes they want to try other steps first. You could google the drug and see. I only know that low blood sugars are really bad effects. Best wishes.
