Methotrexate, ectopic pregnancy and bleeding

I have had two doses of Methotrexate administered by a needle. Between doses, the embryo grew from 2.8 cm to 5.8 cm in a span of a week. My Bhcg went from 2600 down to a little over 900. Was at the hospital under observation but have been released. This is my first night home, and I am concerned about what can happen. Experienced a fainting spell while under observation, low blood pressure after, but since then went up. Still ight headed, bleeding light to moderate, bright red, no tissue or clots. Slight cramping in my left side (where ectopic was discovered). Does anyone have any similar experiences or experienced this? What was the outcome? Am I just paranoid, or am I in grave danger at this point? ALL honesty is respected, will not get offended. Thank you

An ectopic pregnancy is painful to begin with. My pain did start going down once the baby was found to not be surviving well. When I got the metho shot, the pain went up again, along with some nausea. After a week or so after the shot, the pain got better. It was another 2 weeks or so before the pain was completely gone.

Don't feel bad for not cooking or doing chores - your body is going through a lot right now! Hopefully you have a super supportive husband like me and he doesn't mind picking up the chores while you are going though this.

And as far as surgery versus the shot, I asked my dr the same thing. She said surgery is invasive and can inhibit your fertility overall. They prefer to do the least invasive treatment as possible. It worked out for me in the long run. 2-3 cycles later we were allowed to try again - I am now grateful to God to be 12 weeks along now in my new pregnancy. Oh, and those cleaning/cooking skills hubby learned earlier came in handy - I wasn't able to do anything for the last 4 weeks because I've been so sick! A good husband is so valuable!! :)

I will pray for you ladies that the pain gets better soon. And know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Hi,
Thank you. It is true that we all need God's support and blessings especially at this tough time and of course all the time.

My HCG levels were more than doubling before I recieved the shot.  Hence my Doctor thought it could be viable pregnancy. But at HCG 3k+ when they could see nothing in the uterus they suspected it to be ectopic and it is when they found some mass in my left tube. On the same day I got the shot. When my HCG reached 6k+ I was so afraid of rupturing. I was feeling like as if I am walking on the thin ice. I have my next blood work on 10/28. I will update you my levels. I also pray that I don't need anymore of that medicine and my HCG should hit zero faster.

I was given the shot on around 6th week. What about you ? Good to hear that your levels didn't increase but came down instead.

I read bleeding will happen in the later days for some women, but in my case I had spotting & bleeding far before I received the shot.

Sorry about that weird pain. Hope your pain soon subsides and HCG reaches 0 quickly without any further medicine/surgery.

Take care.

Hi and thank you for writing me.. I adore your screen name it is so positive and I need that!  Sorry to hear about your loss also.. and to all the girls here.. I am sorry to hear of all these things.

I went today 10-24-10 to check my levels they are 1142 so they are going down.. I go back on Wednesday 10-27-10 the doctor wants to see them drop 15% more by wednesday or they will administer more methotextrate.. I pray that I dont need anymore of that medicine.  I dont have any bleeding at all yet.  I hope and pray this ends soon for all of us.  If I could go back to last week I would never take that shot.. I am still a ticking time bomb and can errupt at anytime thats what I dont like.  My pain is still severe cant even clean my house or do laundry or cook for my husband and I.  I know its gonna get better.. but its this waiting and slow agony.  I asked my doctor today when she went over lab results with me WHY is the pain so EXTREME she said its because its breaking it down and compared to you other girls.. your levels are even higher than mine and was wondering if the higher your HCG is the stronger the pain.. but the doctor said no its different for everyone.... and they arent suppose to administer the Methotrexate to you if your initial HCG is 5000 and above I read that.  BelieveGod4ever your levels rose alot..before they dropped and I also read and was told that was very common to happen.  Well sorry to complain alot here girls but the pain is strong.  I am gonna write back on Wednesday with my new levels.  Take care :)

I am so sorry for your loss, I understand how difficult it is undergo all these.

Here is my story. I got my metho shot on 09/30 for my ectopic pregnancy (left tube) when my HCG levels were 3000+.
10/04- hcg raised to 6336 (I was told it is normal to rise initially and then comes down).
10/07- it was 4252.
10/15- it came down to 2443.
10/2- it was 952.

I had spotting for around 6 days from 09/18 to 09/23.
Bleeding from 09/24 to 10/01.
1 day past my metho shot I had heavy bleeding that is from 10/01 to 10/08 .
But no pain what so ever.

Short break from Red Aunty there after.

Again I started bleeding heavy for 3 days from 10/21 to 10/23 . This time I had sharp pain in my left side all 3 days.

And today no pain and no bleeding.

I am fed up of all these things. Hope it ends soon and HCG drops to zero. I can't wait to get back to my normal cycle and get into TTC game again.

But every woman is different. Sorry!! I can't help you much on your question.
Hope you will get well soon.
Keep us updated.

I recieved Methotextrate shot on Wednesday 10-20-10 for ectopic pregnancy.  Its located in my right fallopian tube.  My HCG levels were about 1200.  I had pain in my mid back and lower abdomen and now it moved from the midback to only on my right side of back more near the hip and lower front abdomen pain/groin area.  My question is... and I have had a ruptured ectopic and know that pain and had to have emergency surgery for that and they took the tube out.  So my question is.. why does it hurt so bad?  I have no external bleeding but didnt have that the last time the left side erupted just experienced excruciating pain.  Why does it hurt so bad is it the medicine destroying the fetus?  I went back in on 10-22-10 to see if it did erupt they did ultrasound and repeated labs said blood levels havent changed and the ultrasound shows no signs of fluid that I shouldnt be worried just keep taking pain medicine and take it easy.  I am on ROXICET and I have a high tolerance for pain but this doesnt work and I dont want to be self medicating in case it does erupt and so I am aware so I am scared to be on the pain medicine so it doesnt fabricate the real feeling in case I am in danger.  The pain is so bad that I cant stand straight or walk normal and when I try to get out of bed or off the couch, chair or the toilet its kills me to move period.  Has anyone experienced this before?  I am not a baby and can tolerate pain but they told me it would be cramping.. It literally feels like a war is goin on inside my body.  I asked what my options were and the doctor kept pushing for methotextrate even though I told them I wasnt comfortable with it I would just prefer surgery to have the tube removed.  My husband and I were looking to do invitro because they told me this tube was bad and was 100% clogged a year ago so we never took precaution for trying to conceive because they told me we wouldnt be able to according to the HSG test they did on that tube.  Can anyone share something or anything that will help me.  I go back tomorrow for more bloodwork which is 10-25-10 to see levels then go back on Wednesday 10-27-10.  If my levels arent low enough I dont want to take another round of methotextrate I would prefer surgery does anyone know if that would be an option? and if what I am experiencing is normal for this kind of thing.  I cant even grieve I am consumed with so much pain.  I know that sounds terrible but that part hasnt even hit me yet.. If anyone can help please write me.. thank you!
