Pain in left breast for months

I have had a dull pain in my left breast for the past 5 months. I am 31, started on birth control pill back in April. I tried a few kinds, now I am on Alesse.
The pain will not go away. It is not cyclical. Went to see my family doctor, who sent me to the breast clinic, and I was told that I didn't have breast cancer. How can they tell when I never had an ultrasound or mammogram.
Could it be muscle related? I am so anxious about the pain. I have panic attacks, because the pain makes me believe that it could be something serious. A body doesn't hurt for no reason.
Often I get a pain in the shoulder, and the upper back on the left hand side as well.
What kind of tests should I ask for next time I see my family doctor?
Anybody has similar symptoms?

does the pain shoot through your nipple? i get ice cold stabbing pain through myl eft nipple that hurt so bad that my gyno has prescribed me hydrocodone. no one knows what is wrong with me either. my father, who is in the medical field, believes it to be some sort of nerve problem.

I am being told that it could be either a side effect of the birth control pill, or maybe muscle related.
I think the pain would ease if someone finally found a diagnosis.

No, my nipple doesn't hurt, not like yours. But I can imagine how painful that must be. How often does it happen? Or is it related to a specific movement?

You see with my pain, when i go to the gym and work out, i feel no pain for a few hours. But then it hurts again.

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I went to the clinic twice with a referral for a mammogram and an ultrasound, but on both occassions they pre-screened me, did a breast exam by hand, and they told me I did not need a mammogram or an ultrasound. I am too young too to have one anyways.
I started crying in front of the doctor, because I had been stressed out about the pain for many months, and he just told me, don't worry, you don't have breast cancer. I will write my report to the family doctor.
So, here I am still not believing him. The pain is still there, it is localized to one specific area. I even showed it to my boyfriend, and he felt the hardened area. But then we checked my right breast, and he said it was the same. I am lost.

I will try to go to another doctor, and visit a different ultrasound facility, and only hope that they would perform at least the ultrasound to give me a peace of mind.

Thanks again for your reply.
