Onset of pelvic pain

Hi - I'm 51 years old and since yesterday afternoon I've had this pelvic pain which comes & goes almost like contractions.  It starts out dull to painful.  This morning for 2.5 hours it was pretty bad but its subsided now and the pain isn't as bad.  This is day 3 of my period.  I thought maybe it was gas but I've gone to the bathroom 3 times since yesterday afternoon.  I do not have any other symptoms.  Would anyone have any suggestions?

Have you gone to your doctor about this?  I have had cysts before that tended to cause more cramping during menstruation.

Yes this is abnormal for my cycles.  I have recently getting cramps like a teenager before I get my period.

Is this abnormal for your cycles?  Or do you usually have pretty strong PMS?
