THANK YOU!!! It was nice to have your input, because I felt like I was crazy! Hopefully I will get to the bottom of all this soon. I am also feeling like I got the wrong scan put in my name, nice to know I now get to endure surgical. Enopause on top of it all!!!!
This is a new one for me!
So, on February of this year, you had a CT done in the ER which CLEARLY showed two ovaries and two fallopian tubes. One with a mass and the other with a grouping of smaller cysts.
You then went to your primary doctor, who I have to assume also saw your CT scan. HE/SHE must ALSO have clearly seen two ovaries and two fallopion tubes or they would have said something.
You next went to your GYNO with the SAME CT scan who told you the right ovary would have to be removed and he would decide what to do with the left ovary when he got in there.
But after rooting around for well over an hour, he could find absolutely no trace of this mysterious left ovary.
The only explanation they could come up with is that sometime between having the scan and then the surgery, you SECRETELY had your entire left ovary and tube removed. Are you serious? They actually said that? Did they ask if you'd been to Argentina to sell off some body parts?
Was there ever a SECOND scan done? Was it thoroughly checked they had YOUR scan and not a woman who'd already had one ovary and tube removed?
It's absolutely impossible to believe that 3 doctors and Lord only knows how many techs and nurses saw those scans and all of them saw two ovaries and tubes!
I'm quite at a loss to explain this, but unless you DID, for some unfathomable reason, have that left ovary and tube removed, then I'd be on the phone to 60 Minutes for fame and fortune! Because somebody screwed up big time somewhere down the line on your trip to the OR. (Were you abducted by aliens during those few months?) That's the only explanation I can come up with.
I was going to say get hold of that scan and get a second opinion, but I realized you've already had THREE. I just about wrote "LOL" but I don't think there's a damn thing funny about this.
At your post op this Friday, whatever else you do, do NOT leave that office without any and all scans or X-rays and fill our a request for your COMPLETE medical records from your first trip to the OR to your final trip for post op follow up. Tell them you want every single piece of paper that has anything to do with this surgery.
Your left ovary and fallopian tube would NOT simply disappear, they didn't just fall out on the sidewalk. Which means your surgeon was operating on you with a totally erroneous "map." That is one hell of a huge mistake which could have cost you far more than an extra hour and a half under the knife. That mistake is spelled M-A-L-P-R-A-C-T-I-C-E.
Personally, I'd look into filing a lawsuit.
Doctors are not gods. They are human and they make mistakes. We put our very lives into their hands and we have certain expectations that every possible "i" will be dotted, every "t" crossed and the correct name will be on the CT scans which they use as guides to cut us open.
Doctors pay extraordinay huge amounts of money in malpractice insurance for just these types of errors. Just because you were fortunate that no lasting harm was done to you does not mean this mistake should go unpunished. This could have ended in a tradgedy and someone needs to be help accountable.
I work in a hospital and have the greatest respect and admiration for (most) doctors and surgeons, I am not some litigious zealot, but I firmly believe people must be held accountable for their mistakes.
I think I may have, some many paragraphs ago, answered your one and only question which was " why does my ultrasound report show the size and deminsions and cysts of an ovary and tube that don't even exist??? "
And I think the answer is that the scan all these doctors were looking at WAS NOT YOURS! It is the ONLY possible answer.
I wish you full and quick recovery
Peace
