Late period

I haven't had my period in nearly 2 months and my cycle is usually only 28 days. I know I'm not pregnant but does anyone know why it may be so late? This has never happened before and I don't know if I should go to the doctor. Oh and does it make a difference if you use pads or tampons because I heard if you use tampons you period will be longer is that true??
