Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

Well - I am soooo glad I've found this forum!!

I am from Australia, and my GP put me onto Yaz last month telling me that although it was expensive (the most expensive BC on the Australian market!), it is the BEST BC available at the moment (and new!). So I spent the money and purchased 3 months worth of pills..I am healthy (fit), have not been on BC for 3 years and have had perfect periods! (I wanted to go onto BC for reasons of preventing pregnancy when my BF and I slip up during drunken times and a condom is forgotten!!!)

I started Yaz 3 weeks ago, and after my period ended I had about 2 days of grace until "hello", it was back...not a full period but brown discharge and lots of it...and it has not stopped! Has anyone esle experienced this side effect?

Also my moods have been crazy - bursting into tears at the drop of a hat...and my clothes are feeling much tighter and my diet/exercise regime has not changed at all! Even the lack of sex drive is making sense...no pill has ever done this to me EVER...what on Earth are they putting into Yaz, or who is cooking it up - a bunch of women haters?

I'm stopping Yaz...and I am so disapointed that my trusted GP put me onto such a terrible pill - the only thing I can think of is that she is getting a great kickback from the recommendation!

I've been on Yaz for 9 months now.  What a rollercoaster ride this has been.  My husband and I fight all the time and I don't have any patience. We almost separated.  I often feel very depressed and tired, and have no sex drive.   I am also constipated.  Today I'm not taking Yaz for the first time, hopefully this will change all the negative things happening in my life.  Yaz is clearly not working for me. ??

Ok, I think most of you people experiencing bad mood swings and emotional symptoms within the first 3 months of taking the pill are VERY common. You have to give it time to let your body adjust.

However, for those users who are having stroke-like symptoms (numbness/slurred speech/unable to use an extremity.) You need to stop the pill IMMEDIATELY and immediately go to the ER. (I'm a neurology nurse who responds to stroke alerts)

Nausea is common, take the pill at night.

Ok, now onto me. I'm a 24yr old, recently got married, I started YAZ a few months before the wedding. I've lost 15 pounds, I can't exclude that loss to just the pill though, I changed my diet and exercise. However, I have ZERO sex drive, which is definitely not like me... Also, I have very painful intercourse. My husband and I use a lot of lubrication, the "sensitive skin" one and it still burns!

After reading this, it looks like the really bad symptoms came on for people who have been using the pill long-term (over 1 yr). I've been on it for about 6 months now, and am considering changing it. But, this has been the only one I'm on. I guess I'll ask my doctor. But, has anyone switched to a different pill and has their sex drive back to normal?

I was on for 5 months and was just diagnosed with a micro adinoma, a small brain tumor. I lost my periods which made me uncomfortable, and then I started lactating without pregnancy. This pill is lethal.

I have a good comment and a bad comment!

I started taking Yaz when I was thirteen for heavy periods. I gained five pounds, went from 110 to 115 - that was the only negative side effect (After a year I dropped back down to 110 though). It was a rare occasion when I had a zit, my PMS was tolerable, and it actually helped with my mood in general- much more pleasant. I was on Yaz for 3 years and four months and stopped taking it because something started to happen to me... I lost my sex drive! I have been with the same guy for three years and the gradual effects it had on my sexual life was so annoying that I risked having heavy periods again and took a break from Yaz!
I have been off of Yaz for two months and my face is harder to control with blemishes. The most dramatic negative effect of being off of the pill was PMS- super bloated, super cranky, and my face broke out! But my sex drive was back to normal...

I just started taking it again tonight. I am hoping that I don't have to go through all the effects that I went through in the beginning when my body was first adjusting like weight gain... We'll see if my sex drive is still low.

Good luck to everyone! It affects people differently. Keep that in mind when you're reading this :)
