Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

I took Yaz for almost three years. I'm having HORRENDOUS anxiety and low blood pressure challenges. (Anxiety can cause your body to dump salt and as a result blood pressure can be low.) When I started seeing a naturopath, they put me on supplemental magnesium. That has really helped with the panic and the anxiety. For more info, check out The Magnesium Miracle on amazon. I'm still dealing with the low blood pressure and feeling of faintness. I am praying that this will subside with time. I can't work out at all without feeling faint. It's really scary. I'm not sure if this is strictly attributable to my having taken BC. I had no idea the correlation of side effects from the pill and my experience. For 2 years it was fine, but then one day something snapped. Off the pill, I feel better for sure, however these lingering issues are freaking me out. If anyone has any experience having gotten off of the pill, I would really appreciate hearing about it.

Also, I must add that when I went to my OBGYN she kind of bullied me into staying on the pill espousing all the fabulous things it does for you. My gut was not having it. I went to a naturopath to discuss it. They really don't like the pill because of the fake hormones. They are of the opinion that the estrogen dominance in our environment and foods causes lots of problems for people.

Anyway, I am really really happy to be off the pill. I didnt realize what a GAG reflex I was having everytime I took the stuff. Also, look up premarin mares. I just learned about this. NOthing good can come from that kind of abuse. Good luck ladies and thank you so much for sharing your stories. It has really really helped me to feel better that the weight gain and the anxiety / depression are real side effects.

I was 35 last spring when I was diagnosed with a large fibroid in my uteris and was experiencing severe periods...messy and painful.  I was prescribed Yaz to decrease my period severity and started taking them expecting it to help.  Six weeks later my foot swelled up and it felt like I had a permanent charlie horse in my calf.  I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my knee and the day after I was diagnosed with pulmonary emboli too.  Scary stuff!  Stopped taking Yaz as soon as I started experiencing the pain knowing that there was a chance of this side effect.  Oh and it didn't help with the severity of my period either.  Waste of money and made me severely ill too.  Careful ladies and pay attention to all the literature accompanying your prescription.

Yaz made me very angry.  So angry that I had become a very different person.  My husband is such a loving and patient person and he couldn't have made me angry.   It had to do something with Yaz because that was the only medication I took.  I stopped Yaz, and I don't recall being so angry since then.

I started yaz at the beginning of the summer and im on my 4 month package now and I still havent gotten my period.  I am waiting and waiting and I even went off it for a week and still... nothing so i figured in order to regulate me again i would keep going with how I was before and still i have not seen any signs of a period, i have had slight cramping during the weeks where I was supposed to get my period but nothing unbareable... i have taken 3 prego tests and they were all negative, i havent gained a pound... i have actually lots alot of weight being on yaz, the only thing that freaks me out about it is the fact i have yet to see my period and im goin on 5 months now heeeeelp, is this normal about the lack of period??

I was given several samples of yaz from a nurse at the medical clinic I visit. I have had issues with oral contraceptives in the past, I've taken about 4 different kinds including Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. The most severe side effects I've had in the past was my cycle contining for long periods of time and extreme mood swings. A little over a month ago I began taking Yaz. I had side effects that are consistent with the labeling here and there but didn't make the connection/relation. Within my last week I began experiencing extreme nausea, headaches and frequent breast tenderness and soreness. The uncomfort was so extreme that I decided to stop taking it all together. I wasn't alarmed when my cycle didn't starting during the 4 days allotted but I stopped taking it after I finished the first full pack and here I am two weeks later and I still haven't started my cycle. I've made an appointment with my Dr. but wont be able to meet with her until about another 2 weeks. Is there any advice that can be given? How long will I continue feeling like this? Is it normal that my cycle hasn't resumed yet? And is it normal that the side effects are still as severe as when they began although I stopped taking Yaz close to 2 weeks ago?

Thanks, Bridge

I have been on Yaz for over a year now but on and off. I went on it again in April and after a few weeks I went off it because I found I was having bad anxiety, depression and trouble sleeping through the night. For 3 weeks the symptoms didn't go away so I went back on it in the beginning of May and I still have the symptoms. Did I not wait long enough? How long does it take until the pill is out of your system?
