cholesterol

Hi ladies, well I went and got my blood drawn. Everything checked out except for my cholesterol. It is 303....way too high. Could this be why I'm feeling so weird? I feel pregnant, exactly like I did with all my other pregnancies. Could high cholesterol make me feel this way? Or could it be hormone problems? I know messed up hormones can make you feel pregnant. When they drew my blood, they did a chemical screen, or whatever that is. It was a chemical something. Do they check your hormones with that type of test? Or would that be a seperate blood draw? I see my Dr. next tuesday to talk about my cholesterol and I'm going to talk to him about how I have been feeling.
Also, my blood sugar is normal. Somebody had mentioned that that might be what is wrong with me. I'm hoping that the high cholesterol is what is causig me to feel so bad. Does anybody have any idea's?

I think that high cholestrol could make you feel weird. But I honestly think it might be hormonal. I was  overweight and my cholestrol was about 235. Within 3 months, I lost about 15 lbs, and my cholestrol dropped to 198. I felt so alive and so much better. I think it was from the weight loss though. cholestrol blocks your arteries, so it slows down your blood (or something like that). you would think this could make you feel tired if your body is not getting the proper circulation it needs. I have to admit I have put back on the weight the past 6months or so. So, I am sure that my cholestrol is high again. I am starting today to change my diet once again. This time-it has to be for good!!

The best thing for you to do, is talk with your doc next week. This way you will find out if it is cholestrol or hormones that are causing your issues. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe a hormone problem too. Sinse my hysterectomy (4 months ago) and being on and off the Lupron shot, I'm sure things have been pretty messed up.

I'm also starting a new life today. I have to admit that my eating habbits have not been that good. I'm changing, starting today, what me and my family eats. Most of the family on my moms side has really high cholesterol and there is a lot of heart disease in my family too. I should have known better....

In the last 4 months I too have gained a lot of weight. I need to get that off along with eating better.

How did you lose the weight?

Hi Nalla,
Glad to hear that you got at least one worry off your mind-blood sugar.  Anyhow, the lupron shot may be to blame for some of your feelings. If I understand it correctly, it flares up the pituitary, then slows it way down??? I'm sure this has a lot to do with how you feel.
I was wondering about your cholesterol. Sometimes the values can be off unless it is a 12 hour fasting-nothing to eat or drink. My sisters were up when she fasted 7 hours, but her 12 hour was something like 100 points lower. Just wondering. Take care and hopefully next week you'll have the answers that you are looking for.

For me, I felt I absolutely had to lose the weight,so the diet went really well for me. I would have oatmeal for breakfast. cheese-light/cabot, with grapes for a mid-am snack. a salad and 1/2sandwich for lunch. a yogurt for afternoon snack. and just a sensible dinner. I dont like fish- so I ate ALOT of chicken and brocoli. I would also have a snack at night- either pudding or popcorn. This is basically what I ate for the 3 or 4 months. I got used to it. I also exercised on my treadmill or walked with the girls I used to work with for about 30-45minutes per day.

I felt by eating 6 meals a day- it keeps your blood sugar level so you dont binge eat. I was eating 2 or 3 candy bars a day- so not healthy!!! I have taken up the same diet again. Best of luck and if you need anything else please dont hesitate to ask!! We can do this together!!!

tmv- Yes, the blood sugar thing coming out normal was a huge relief! There are two family members that have diabetes. I didn't want to go down that path!
About the cholesteral, I went into the Dr. in the late morning and I hadn't eaten anything sinse the previous evening. It was well over 12 hours. There are so many people in my family that have really really high cholesterol. So I'm not really suprised to see that mine is so high, especialy with me not excersising right now and my diet hasn't been very good. I'm sure it will come down now that I'm starting to do things right.

torque- I have a feeling for me at least, that this isn't going to be as easy as I think. I love food and my husband is a cheff and makes the greatest food! But I think that motivation will be there if I think of changing things for my health and kids health instead of losing weight, I will do ok. (I hope) I'm making him change his eating habbits too. he wasn't very happy LOL!
Maybe we can motivate each other! :)

Your husband cooks! I'm soooo jealous! But, on a serious note, small changes can actually have a great benefit in the long run.  Even cutting back on sugars, changing to whole wheat bread, and the obvious fatty foods can make a huge difference.  Going on walks or treadmill can increase the good cholesterol and help to bring down the bad. But with a family history, you probably know all that.  Keep your chin up and remember you're young and have a jump on it. And they do have a large amount of meds out there now for it. Have a great night.
