clicking sounds in chest.

hi - i'm a 22yr old female and i just wondered if anyone out there has any idea to why i get (which i can only describe as..) clicking noises when i take a deep breath. It doesnt happen all the time, but when it does its very uncomfortable - i've had it now for about 7yrs, and it has got worse as i've aged. I did go to the docs when it started years ago, an got sent for xray but everything seemed fine, and the doc couldnt tell me why - so i got discharged and carried on with it, but it has got worse - and the clicking noises louder!! anyone know what this is?? - Thank you - Steph

my son is 16 1/2 yrs old and he has a clicking sometimes in his chest around the wishbone area and he ask the doctor about it and said that it is like a cartlidge there and as he gets older it should quit doing that.... it kind of forms into a bone there.... maybe yours is the same way

hi - no I dont smoke and am not overweight, though if i was i guess that would most probably be why i'm having these clicking!! in answer to "painfully waiting" - when i went to the dr the 1st time it happend (i was about 13ish) he said i'd most prob grow out of it in 3 yrs - i'm 22 now and its getting worse - if i were you, have him get an xray. thank you for the comments, i'm going to make an app to see my dr, i'll let you know what he says! xxx

i know this is an obvious question but do you smoke? sounds like an upper respiratory problem. are you overweight? i know sometimes people who are have that type of breathing. you can just hear it. i would think that whenever you go to a dr. that they'd note something since they always check breathing w. the stethascope. how about a recent cold/flu? although you did say you have been experiencing this for quite some time. im not sure but im confident someone out there can offer more.
