8 year old daughter throwing complete Hissy fits

I have a smilar daughter--bright, funny, well-read, creative. She also has low self-esteem, no matter how much we praise or encourage her. For the last few months, every time we say No, or she oversteps a boundary and recieves a punishment (which is generally a time-out) she throws a full on screaming hissy fit, complete with "you hate me, everyone hates me, no one loves me, etc etc". I expected this kind of thing when she hit her teen years but not at 7-8 years old. She is inconsolable until she calms down.

She also will argue and challenge almost everything her father says to her, and many things I say to her (ie "we had ice cream last night", she says "no we did NOT" and nothing will change her mind).

she does NOT do this kind of thing at school or church or scouts, etc. She saves it all for Mom & dad. We could use some guidance/advice.

When she says 'we had ice cream last night' is that in response to you saying she couldnt have it again, I wondered why if she likes ice cream, I would eat it every night its so good, try to accomodate her on minor issues, let her win, could you try some Yes's instead of some No's  .If she tries a hissy fit ignore her, walk away and let her get on with iot, maybe you react and that feeds the frenzy,take a step back and walk in her shoes.
