Hydrangia ? for Fall ... and Why don't mine Bloom in the Spring ?

Hi -- not sure I spelled it correctly, but do I cut back my Hydrangia's in the Fall or leave them up all winter until new growth appears in the Spring

Also, this is the 3rd year since I planted them and the past 2 yrs no flowers ?? Maybe not enough light?  They get about 6 hrs in the Summer but Spring and Fall is less .. North Exposure in the NE Zone.

Thanks!!

I think there are different types of hydrangeas... we have one on the east side of our house that is white.  My gardening neighbor informs me that it's a type that will not turn different colors even if you add acid.  Is this true?  If I try adding acid would I kill it?

I walking thru the room & there it was .. a show on this exact plant and why no flowers!

Silly me --- I've been pruning it back in the Fall!!!!  That actually is cutting off the flowers for next year!

This year --- let it stay as-is and should see flowers!

More acid in soil- the bluer the flower!
