okay thank you we weillwait until the 7th of november..be safer anyways unless we are both sick again then:)
CYW, as far as I know, he can't get the vaccine while he is taking prednisone. I could be wrong, but I wasn't allowed to get the seasonal flu shot while I was taking prednisone.
thansk again ladies...there are no credibility to proove otherwise unsafe and like someone posted the gov't would have to be stupid to release something like this to the public if its going to do them harm...i just hear of course word of mouth that it can trigger reactions in people and can do horrible things to you...They have this silly video on facebook about one cheerleader girl getting the shot...i think its far fetched but what if something similar happened.. or in a few years they say it caused sterility or they made a mistake etc...mind you i would prefer my child be sterile than dead...
he is starting his prednisone tomorrow and hopefully i continue to keep getting better because of course you do not want to be sick when taking this immunization...but we will go on saturday, they are holding it in the shopping centre here and if not then we will go on the 7th of november to get it done...its affecting people in my age as well as young kids n elderlies here...also our community keeps havig reported cases:S
You should read the blog by one of the Dr. Choi on H1N1. I am pretty sure he has run for the hills thinking there is a bunch of crazy people on here...it's amazing what people will come up with....
I saw on the pregnancy 18-34 forum that someone is saying that the vaccine is a holocaust opportunity by the government.
I'm pretty much speechless.
I totally agree.
Asthma makes your son extremely high risk from the flu. The danger is in NOT getting it.
I have gotten flu shots every year since 1985, when I became critically ill and was in ICU for a week--from complications from the flu. I never miss a shot. Ever.
I've never had anything more than a sore arm for a day. And I have asthma.
I also cannot find any reliable negatives to getting this vaccine. I made up my mind weeks ago to get it. I have never had any negative reaction to the seasonal flu vaccine, so am assuming it will be the same. Besides, in my mind the minor risk that might be associated with this vaccine certainly seems better to me then getting this flu. I am just going into third trimester, and there is no way I am not going to protect myself as much as possible. All the "cons" I have read seem to have to do with gov't and pharma companies having some big conspiracy going, and well, call me crazy, but I just don't buy it. MInd you, I also believe Elvis really is dead. My biggest frustration with this whole thing right now is that it has become available in our city as of yesterday, and I can't get my hands on it. I am not even waiting for thermisol free, I just want the darned vaccine.
CYW, there is some stuff floating around out there about some becoming sick from the vaccine. I haven't been able to find a source that holds any credibility, however, even if it is true, I don't think there is a drug of any kind in exsistance that some don't have a negative reaction to. If it were my child, I would be getting him vaccinated as soon as possible. The protocols behind this vaccine are the same as with the regular seasonal flu vaccine. That has been proven safe. In the shot form, it is not a live virus (as I have heard claimed), but a dead DNA strand. If you or your son haven't had any problems with the seasonal vaccine (which the majority don't) then chances are all will be fine with this one. My understanding is that that is why they are not concerned with the fact that a tonne of testing has not been done. I'm lucky enough to work with a few Dr.'s on our provincial pandemic planning committee so we get regular (almost daily) updates. It really does sound safe to me, and trust me, there is nothing in the world that would make me jeopradize this pregnancy. Good luck.
CYW, because your son has asthma, he should definately get the H1N1 vaccine. He is at an even higher risk of having complications if he were to get the flu. I would be more concerned about him getting the flu, then of side effects from the vaccine. I wish we could get the shot here, but right now all we have available is the seasonal flu shot.
I also would like to know what the horrible side effects people keep talking about are. Any time I have asked for people to tell me what they were, or where they got that info from, no one answers. I don't get it. I also am tired of reading all these conspiracy theories.
thanks ladies.. i dont know why but they keep talking about something in the vaccination affecting lungs and being dangerous to those with issues with their lungs and my son is asthmatic, taking advair and salbutamol and now on prednisone once again...im just so scared because it seems liek it came out so quick too that i fear they will come out with a new research...it just scares me for some reason.. we are both getting over a horrible cold too.. i was sick like mad all weekend just getting over it...they have it at our main shopping centre this saturday.. if we are better we will go and get it and i will speak to a nurse also...
Listen, guys.
We admitted a 28 week pregnant woman this morning who only had been ill for 11 hours. They were putting her on a ventilator when I left this morning. She was perfectly healthy YESTERDAY.
Her tests came back neg for H1N1, but the test is only 70% accurate. It doesn't matter, anyway, since the treatment is essentially the same.
She is critically, critically ill. Her baby may not survive. They can't even do anything about it if it started doing badly in utero--she would not survive a C/Section.
The LA times had a great article on pregnancy and swine flu, but I can't find it online, only in print.
Most people will survive the flu, that's a fact. But this flu in particular is hitting pregnant women, children, and young adults particularly hard. Statistics do not seem helpful to the patient I had last night.
Even Tamiflu, for which there is not a whole lot of experience with pregnancy, is recommended for pregnant women with the flu. That says a lot. Its not the doctors and CDC being involved in a "conspiracy"...its genuine risk vs benefit. You can die from the flu. You will not die from Tamiflu.
I would definitely follow the advice of your doctor in regards to the vaccine.
I got the shot and have had no side effects so far. My husband got the nasal mist and has had no side effects either.
Yea- I did see some statistics on side-effects- most were injection site soreness (duh), or other mild side effects you may get with any shot. most major reactions were in people who are allergic to egg. I am curious. I even went to mercola which is a major site against it... even that site does not list any statistics or even specific side effects despite the fact that they so vehemently argue against it, using the risks of the shot as a major reason.
Tired- I keep hearing about all these "cons" but haven't seen anything reliable.
From what I've read people are getting aches, fever, shaking etc after getting the shot.
All medications have side effects that affect some people and not others.
i'll ask you, since i know on this forum it probably won't turn into a shouting match... this isn't specifically directed at you... but, what cons have you heard? people keep saying the shot can be worse than the flu, but i would love to see a reliable source with statistics. Not some blog where someone reports that their mother's cousin's friend got sick. Aside from the rare potential complication of guillian barre syndrome, what are people getting? I've been looking for these scholarly, credible studies but haven't found them yet.
found this interesting article- http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/28/health/main5346050.shtml
i don't think the pharmaceutical companies or even the gov't would risk all the potential class-action lawsuits that would surely sink them if they felt the shot was dangerous
