A really odd question about baby bump

Ok, so I will probably sound like a crazy lady, but this has been bothering me for the last week . . .

I *think* I have a small baby bump (almost 17w), but it's hard to tell with the extra padding.  My concern is that above my belly button seems to be getting a lot wider; not below.  Does this mean my fat is shifting up to make room for baby below?  I definitely look preggo above the belly button (big and round between chest and belly) and that just can't be right.  Is there a typical bump for a woman who's overweight?

I know, weird, but I have no idea what my preggo body is supposed to look like and I SO want to look preggo!!

I don't have that problem any more!  LOL - I'm all rounded and filled out now.  Turns out baby was sitting low, but she pushed all my innards and fat up and that's what was making up my "bump" in the beginning.  I guess I just needed to be patient and that really with my extra padding it has been harder for the real bump to show.

Even at 8 months I can still wear my regular winter jacket and there are certain shirts that you can't even tell that I'm pg in (I just look fat).  At 7mos, my hairdresser still had no idea I was pg.

Bam, yep you sound like me! With Lillian i didn't really get rounded down below until the end. I sort of just had floppy skin down below. I still looked pregnant but only the top of my bump was hard. I hated when people wanted to rub me!

This sounds exactly like my belly.. this time around, I have had several people since about 4 months pregnant mention my belly and when am I due. With my son I never had that till I was 8months along, but I also started out 60lbs heavier this time- ick!

I am definantly showing, but also have a pouch from the last pregnancy.

My SIL is VERY thin and she got thick above her belly button first. She is preggo with her second now and she just started to show BELOW her belly button at week 18. Before then, she just looked like she was getting chubby. I think that's fairly normal for all women.

that does seem to make sense. i just get big all over...you should check out my last pre-delivery pictures I think they may get you excited...I hear all the time "skinny girls have the best bellies" but I beg to differ I had one nice giant baby bump and it was cute too darnit LOL...check out the sepia-tone picture from like...I think it was 38 or 39wks I entered in the bump contest but of course it won't win...but yeah you should go look because I want all the girls in this group to know that you DEFINITELY don't have to be skinny to have an awesome bump I hate when skinny girls say that.

Thanks Dana! That makes me feel a lot better. It just seemed like an odd place to start popping!  I have had no feedback from my dr's so don't know what's normal other then reading at looking at other pics online.

Aw, I know exactly how you are feeling.  The first place I always "popped" out was high above my belly button like under my ribs even...and the baby isn't even that high then.  It's not really your fat so much as it is organs and things shifting around.  Its just hard to get past that "fat" feeling stage when you have the extra padding.  I'd say it wasn't until about 24 weeks that I really started "looking preggo" to other people and to myself...  It's kinda like when the baby bump and the lower abdomen "padding" meet together or something...lol....  You'll get there my friend. :)

Well i hope i can help you out a little here and make sense doing it. With both of my boys when i got my bump i had it from my belly button up and not bellow. I think it is because of my fat pouch i have below. I did look pregnant for sure though.
