Weight Gain

Hey ladies...I am just curious.  I am almost 30 weeks and I've gained 18 lbs.  I am trying to do my best but it really annoys me when the Dr. says to "keep your weight stable"....like I really have TOO much control over that!!  I am trying to eat better and such but sometimes there's no preventing it!!  LOL!  I know for "overweight" people they like no more than 20-25 lbs but last time I gained 38....wondering how everyone else was doing with this??

Dana- I think your weight gain is reasonable I notice some Dr will be a little more stric on the weight gain than others but you're almost at the end of pregnancy and baby gain most of their weight at this stage so it must be just baby growing

I guess I am one of the lucky ones and I thank God for that I am in bed rest cannot walk more than 15 min so that means from bed to couch since wk 12 (only go out to grocery) now I am 25wks 1day and at my Dr appt yesterday I have gain total of 5 lbs I am still worry because I know baby will be growing a lot more and I am afraid to gain too much since I can't excercise but we'll see...the good thing Dr said I can start walking at 32 wks another 7 wks for that....can't wait to be able to get out a little more =)

I think it will all even out in the end...it just makes me upset to do to my drs appointments and get a disappointing look or comment about gaining weight.  Especially when our hormones are running wild!  I guess it's just what they have to do as heath providers is to make sure we are watching it...yeah, I'm watching it alright...lol..going up, up, up!  HAHA!!

Bridgette: I know, it's unreal...10 weeks to go....you will be there before you know!!!

I didn't mean to make you feel bad :(  I think the mere fact that all of us are concerned about it is the step in the right direction.

I was reading somewhere in one of my baby books that it's best to eat several small meals a day rather then 3 large ones.  I am just terrible with that!!

Oh sure...just make me feel worse...lol! I'm just joking. I like the comment about not stuffing you face every turn cuz that is me right now. I am 10wks 1day and I stay hungry. With my sons I was so sick I couldnt eat so my weight gain was perfect but this time I have had no sickness and stay ravenous. I am so worried I will gain too much but dont know what else to do. I have made sure to eat fresh fruit or veggies when I get hungry and only eat 3 meals a day with the snacks in between but I use to only eat once or twice a day so I will worry over weight gain this pregnancy. Hopefully it evens out and I lose it all again once delivering  =D

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable amount of weight gain to me.  It's not like you gained 50 lbs!  As long as you are not stuffing your face at every turn (and doesn't sound like you are), then I agree with Ashleen that your body is doing what is natural.

I can't believe you are only 10 weeks away!!  So happy for you hun :)

Thanks girls..I don't know how some of you managed to not gain weight...ugh...congrats to you!

I had been good about my walking but the heat has been bad and I also have had back issues lately.....

I really havent had too many cravings...I don't feel like I am eating excessively...especially when I actually feel full most of the time especially toward dinner time...

Hey :) When I was pregnant with my daughter I lost 20lbs..gained 18...and then lost all 18 in the delivery room so when I went home I was 2lbs lighter than pre-pregnancy....and with my son (3wks old now, OMG already!!) I gained no weight..I lost 26lbs in the delivery room and since then I've lost about 10 more.

the key to controlling my weight was (luck, I'll be honest...mostly luck) but substituting for my cravings...when I craved french fries I wouldn't go to a fast food restaurant I would bake them in the oven at home...when I wanted chips I would eat baked goldfish, cheez-its, or wheat thins...

it's really really really tough and you have to exercise but the truth is sometimes you just can't NOT gain weight. whatever your body is doing is what it needs to do, and as hard as it is to watch that scale climb it's healthy for your baby. I got chastized my whole pregnancy for not gaining weight but my son was born big and healthy.

just try to drink a lot of water, substitute healthy snacks...swim as much as possible and walk at least once a day (watch the heat!) and if you gain weight just try to remember what I said...your body is doing what it needs to do for your baby and it's healthy and completely acceptable, as hard as it is..and you'll lost almost all of it in the delivery room I can promise you that..and if you breastfeed you'll start to fall below pregnancy weight before you know it!

btw what you've gained sounds just right to me...

Lol...DMarie919 I am truly not laughing at you but more about the situation. I heard that same comment while pregnant with my two sons and with my first at 37wks I had only gained 23 lbs..had him by c-section and then lost 26 directly after cuz I was all baby and fluid. My second was also a 37weeker and I gained 26lbs with him and lost 31 directly after. This one I am only 10wks and I have already gained almost 10lbs. When you find a way to slow down the weight gain pls let me know.

Seriously tho...I think your weight gain is right on track. You might gain a little more than the recommended but not enough to cause worry or chiding from your physician unless something drastically changes between now and your delivery day. I do know that when a craving hits...I eat and eat cuz I cant get satisfied until I get what I am craving and this is bad...lol. Right now I have been stuck on home made chili and cornbread but the beans and already extra gas from pregnancy just dont mix ><

Good luck and congratulations!! Not much further now ^_^
