My 9 year old dog was diagnosed about a year ago. She is on 60mg a day of Vetoryl. Fortunately it has been working but she has the shakes now pretty constantly. But her appetite has come back. Good luck with your baby…
Your post has me wondering...does the cushings not respond to trilostane after time? Does the proper dose for 2 1/2 years suddenly become too much? She did very well for 2 1/2 years, but a few months ago began sleeping all the time and not eating. We decreased her dose tremendously...she was back to her normal self. Still sleeps like a 14 year old, but not all the time. When she is not on the trilostane, her energy is almost like a puppy, but is a little anxious and acts like she's starving. Also she has become very sensitive to touch...shys away for being petted or held.
It's hard to know the right thing to do. How long was your dog on trilostane?
Good luck with your girl. You have the right idea, just to enjoy every minute you have left with her. How long was she on the Trilostane?
So sorry to hear that you girl is not feeling well. My Jaden stopped trilostane on august 27th. She has her good days and bad ones. We know that our sweet sweet girls days are numbered. Trust me she is running our wright now and she is loving it. lol We are just gonna love her and baby her until the end. We are positive that if we would have continued the trilostane that she would be dead by now. We at that time were thinking that everyday was gonna be her last. Lets Just enjoy what time we do have left with our sweet girls. When it is time to say goodbye we will know . It is a day that i dread. I wish you both the best. Prayers, hugs and kisses!
It sounds like your girl is still finding her own enjoyment in life, and I definately would continue to let her, and spoil her rotten. She may surprise you and have a lot longer in her than you think, continue doing what your doing, it seems to be working. Good Luck and enjoy each day.
Thanks so much for responding. I'm so sorry to hear what you and your dog went through. My 2 1/2 years of cushings has been challenging but successful I think. With her cortisol levels checked regularly by the vet, she has had a pretty nomal couple of years. A few months ago, she lost her appetite and was losing weight. The vet took her off triostane for 2 weeks, to get her appetite going again. she bacame ravenous and ate everything! We eased her back on trilostane at a small dosage and she's hanging in... As for the seizure yesterday - so scary. She slept most of the day, woke up and wanted a meal. Took her for a ride in the car, stopped at the park thinking we would just sit on a bench - she wanted to walk! Afterwards sat on a bench at the lake and watched the ducks. It was an overcast, cool windy day and she loved the breeze. for 1/2 hour she turned her face to the wind and let it blow - her ears going straight back. She seemed content. She's such a wonderful girl..I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but so far..it keeps coming.
Thanks Linda. I will look at your poem when I can....not yet.
