My Mom would make this every Holiday especially Christmas, melt a jello down, any flavor, when its cooled but not set , add small pieces of walnuts, strawberries, cut up grapes or any fruits, add a splash of Sherry,add some cut up pound/sponge cake .Let it set, get a 'custard' or a variation if you cant get it in the US I have actually bought it here, spread it on top of the jello mix, back into the fridge , before you serve spread thick whipped cream on top, or Low fat cool whip ,any type of thick cream you want.Decorate with fruit... I put blueberries and chopped strawberries on my last one .Its kind of a rich desert for a special occasion..
I've made one using jelly rolls. You slice a jelly roll (the regular one, not the chocolate one) into 1/4 inch slices. In a large glass bowl lay the sliced pieces in the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Cook a custard and cool it. Thaw out a package of frozen raspberries. Drizzle some of the syrup from the raspberries over the bottom of the bowl on top of the jelly roll slices. Add a layer of raspberries then a layer of custard. Add a layer of jelly rolls and continue to repeat. Add whipped cream to the top and serve.
yes its great , kids like helping make it, older than yours LOl I was always allowed to help mix the fruit in and spread the custard on top ,sometimes she decorated it with a small sprig of holly for that Christmas tea-time ....
