auditory phenomenon

So a couple of weeks ago or so, my wife tells me that she was woken from her sleep by what supposed sounded like a semi-truck idling outside out house.  Upon waking, she still heard the noise but when she went to investigate the noise sounded like it was in the middle of our living room..... So last night my youngest son has a dream that wakes him up.  He hears the same noise and goes to investigate..... nothing.

Yesterday afternoon, I was bumming around on the couch.  Had the whole house to myself.  I was sitting there watching a show on the t.v. and a commercial came on so I killed the volume.  I picked up the other remote for the dvd player and then hear a weird noise like sheet metal being shaken.  It's broad day light, and I couldnt find a cause for the noise.  My neighbors were indoors, nobody else was around my house.... (we live in a rural subdivision),

I don't know what I was trying to get to with that, but has anyone heard like a car/truck or something similar when it isnt there?

I have had a similar expierence. When i was younger my family and i heard a car come up our long drive way. Complete with the gravel crunching under the tires. When we went outside to see who was arriving there was noone there but the sound was right in front of us in the drive way. We heard to car drive up come to a stop then shut the motor off. All as if there was a real car there but there was nothing! I have never had it explained to me what had happened. Wether it was a phantom reanactment or just a glitch into the past kinda thing.. SCARY

Sorry, I personally have not, nor have I heard of anyone else experiencing this type of paranormal sounds either. Perhaps somebody else will be able to help you with the paranormal aspect of it.  But it sounds interesting though.

One possible theory I can suggest is-  Do you have a crawl space under the house and maybe a furnace duct that could be rattling?  The reason I ask that is we did have one loose one time and every time the furnace kicked on it caused the loose duct to vibrate and make a sheet metal sound.
Good Luck on finding the answer and God Bless Brenda
