My Eyes Are On The Sparrow

Yes, it happened again.  What happened you are probably asking?  The Sparrow at the window happened again.  I've always seen sparrows fluttering around and trying to get in the window every once in awhile since I was a child. My Mom always had told me it meant someone was going to die.  I've seen it throughout the years and in early adulthood began calculating in what time frame the passing would occur.  It always seems to happen within 1 month of someone I know dying.

The one I saw this time was on the 5th of December, just one day before my surgery, and don't think that wasn't on my mind when I headed into surgery on the 6th because it was. When I made it out of surgery alive, I knew it wasn't going to be me, but WHO?  Unfortunately, my-son-in-law's father was the one who just recently passed away, this time.

I decided to do some research on this strange occurrence.and found various different versions of what others have experienced or others thoughts of why it actually happens.  The meanings are usually all the same, impending death.  Some say the sparrow or bird comes into the house either by window, chimney, or door, some say the number of times it taps the window is the number of days before the death occurs.   I personally have found neither of these true in my particular cases.  Generally, the birds(always Sparrows) I've seen have just hovered and fluttered their wings while close to, and always facing the window.

I found during my research that the Sparrow is mentioned around 40 times in the Holy Bible.  None of which mentioned sparrows entering the house, tapping or fluttering around your windows as a means of warning a person of an approaching death.  Also in Jewish/Hebrew teachings the Sparrow are said to be the excitement of an unborn soul from what is referred to as the Guff-a storehouse for unborn souls.  In order to maintain balance in the universe if a person is born, a person will die.

Have any of you ever experienced this?   What are your thoughts of WHY it happens?

OHHH Hun, I am so sorry for your loss, and my heart goes out to you.  It so hard when we lose those we love and care for.  If it happens again or you see it outside of the window like I described in my original post, I certainly wouldn't ignore the possibility because unfortunately, I've seen it happen over and over again since childhood.

One time it happened, while my father was in the hospital with really bad pneumonia, so of course, I was terrified thinking he was the one who was going to die. My sister's mother-in-law went to the hospital to see my dad.  My sister while waiting for the elevator to arrive at her floor, heard someone screaming, "Please Help Me."  When the elevator opened there laid her mother-in-law on the elevator floor.  She had fallen and was bleeding on the side of her head.  She was taken to ER, a Cat Scan was done, and they said everything was fine and sent her home.  A week later she died due to a bleed in her head. Of course, we were devastated because of it.

One specific thing I have determined since seeing the Sparrow at the window this past time, and it may not be true for everyone but has proved to be true many times so far in my sightings, is that if someone is in the hospital, ill at home, or scheduled for surgery that I am aware of at the time of seeing the Sparrow, they will not be the one who is going to die.  It appears to always be someone I wasn't suspecting could possibly die, someone I didn't know was ill, or in fact wasn't ill at the time.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss.  God Bless Brenda

Its funny you say that cause it happened to me a few months ago. A sparrow entered my house by the chimney and sat at the window just looking at me. when i went to get it out it flew back through the chimney and out it went. A few days later a very very close family friend had a semi accident and died of horrific head injuries. It shook us up and i still have a hard time believeing he is now gone.

So as soon as i read your post i thought of this straight away.
wow. maybe next time i get a sparrow inside ill start prepairing myself.

Yes Marg, That is so terribly sad that those beautiful doves are dying due to something that can be prevented.  They are suspecting fireworks in relation to all those blackbird deaths I believe also, aren't they?  Leave our beautiful birdies alone PLEASE.

Hello Marg,
I too am an animal and bird lover.  I don't believe the Sparrows are viewed as bad, or at least not in my case. They are viewed as a warning when they perform certain behaviors.   The belief is that they have to attempt to get in the window, or house, actually fly in, or attempt to fly in on their own. I don't think Mr. Kitty bringing them in against their will counts in this case.

LOL I get so darn mad at my cat when he messes with my birds, and he will sit in the window swishing around his tail, making this weird monkey like sounds when he's watching them outside and it's almost like his teeth are chattering the way his mouth moves. It Is HILARIOUS LOL.
