Lack of phlegm

For approx. 3 mo's now my nose has not been able to form boogers....i first noticed it while running in early December and since that time I have only been able to have boogers on a couple of occasions, once after gardening and then the other time (twice) when I was in Tucson Az. for 4 days (dry desert air?). When i run or bike my nose drips slightly....i feel fine, no fevers or any other known issues other than ringing in my ears at some point every day....I've had a Dr. check up recently and he ran all kinds of blood and urine tests and everything came back ok except my H1ac was 6.1 and my glucose is 110 so i guess i'm pre-diabetic. Would that have anything to do with this symptom? My Dr. doesn't seem to think anything but i do have an HMO so i'm not sure if he wants to get to deep into anything....I'm very concerned that there is a serious underlying concern...in my mind it seems like my aerobic capacity is down a bit but then that could be because i took almost a year off running and its going to take a while to get that back.....thank you

I was thinking that possibly there could be some external factors in that shortly before this "condition" I did a couple of bay swims here in long beach, ca. and they were right after it had rained.....
the other one was a run I did adjacent to the rio grande river in Albuquerque new mexico in an area they call the bosque...its a dirt trail next to the river....just wondering if I might have picked up something from either of these occurances in mid to late November....thank you for your help....

No I don't think that your sugars would have anything to do with your lack of mucus production.  Such symptoms are usually seen with nasal blockage and may be caused by nasal polyps, chronic sinusitis, problems with the nasal septum, and rarely associated with Sjogren's syndrome.  A visit to an ENT physician may be in order.  Some things that may help include nasal sprays, humidifiers, and nasal lavages to help with the dryness.  Any additional thoughts or info?
