U kno how u don't sit up straight or walk upright and u kno how many people say that u loose oxgen in ur back if u do that I think in my theory is that when ur twisting ur torso ur leaning up straight and ur back is wheezing from lack of oxgen and I think it's coming from the whole back area but Im brought to believe it's only coming from the upper back bcuz I got an x ray and they said I have an tiny curve in my upper back area that's only seen if I wear a shirt with no back fabric and bend over witch would never happen lol
I have this aswel. It only happens when I move side to side with my mouth open! I don't notice it any other time.

Thank god that I found this thread....my freakin doctor told me to see a psychiatric...n i believed him to some extent....I've bin hearin this sound comin outta my upper chest for almost a year now n it happens when i move my torso....haaaaaa....this is wat it sounds like....n I get scared when I hear ths sound....has anybody found the cause of this sound...if so please update it...thanks
I have a same problem I didn't have this problem since I join the gym just 2days ago at the next day I was looking at the mirror then I moved my torso side by side and this sound come out of my mouth I don't know why is it
Im 17 and 5'7" and i do that too and have always been able to make that noise when no one else i know can. I thought it was weird but not a problem. The only reason i decided to look this up was because ive been learning a dance qhere you twist your upper torso a lot and the sound comes out way more than expected and more and more as i continue to practice. I also have asthma and know those symptoms but ive begun to realize as the sound pops up my chest begins to hurt in my upper lungs and will continue woth a soft pain for awhile after. Ill probably consult my doctor or my nurse guardian and see if itd at all a problem.
I have the same problem, and I'm 15. I saw the thread when I looked it up. I also saw the comment about digging, and it made me think that I'm in marching band, where we do "slides". It's essentially turning the shoulders one way while marching another way. I just hope to know if anyone gets any answers on this.

Hi, wanted to go ahead and raise my hand to this also! i first noticed it when digging in a ditch doing yard work as i was extensivly twisting my torso! have you guys been doing somthing like that that first caused it? I went to a chiropracter about 3 days ago and had xrays taken! he said he didnt see anything wrong but he called and wants to see me again tomorrow! so i will update you guys and let you know what happens!!!
I also have the same sound when I twist my upper torso. It sounds like only 1 lung is working when I twist my body. It's scarey enough for me to find this thread to get an answer, I dont have anxiety , I just notice that others dont have the gasping for breath sound while twisting their bodies. Another way to describe it is , when im twisting my body , it seems like im getting 2 breaths of air but im only taking 1 breath. Its kind of hard to explain. Im 6'4 175 pounds , 24 years old and can remember this happening for at least 6 years.
By the way forgot to say I am 31 and 70kgs 5ft 3inches, very active with two children under 5.
I too am experiencing the exact same symptoms, which I have had for about 6 years now, I went to the doctor when I first noticed it and he said he couldn't hear it. I have a new doctor now but don't know whether to mention it to her or not?, at the moment I have thoracic back pain and chest pains when I breath in, which I have had on and off for the past 4-5 years. I don't really want to tell the doctor incase of it being serious or something, I'm too scared to know. (My sister said she could definately hear the noise when I twisted, and said that was weird)
Thanks for posting this question! I came here looking to ask it too. I've been hearing this sound for many years now too and like you it only happens when I move from side to side with my mouth open (strange thing to do I know...)
I am a runner and have never heard it while running only when making that specific movement. I'm still looking to find the root cause but feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one.
Ha, thanks Truman. Is your sound a sound of breathing exhalation noise or a sound of something rubbing?
I found this thread and it is EXACTLY the same thing I am disturbing. The person actually described it much better.
Camden73 are you still around. I'd love to hear if you found out what this was.

I have always been able to hear this sound, especially when I rotate the upper half of my torso from side to side. Everyone in my family can make this sound, including my mother who is 65 and extremely healthy. I have written it off as being the sound of my ribs rubbing together. Although it's probably not a legitimate anatomical possibility, my family is pretty healthy and I can't imagine it's due to illness, so "ribs rubbing together" satisfies me. I usually don't notice it when I walk or run, though I used to a lot more when I was young. (childhood through college). It's always best to see a doctor about your concerns, but I just wanted to let you know that I've been making that sound for 30 years with no problems.
Yeah I read up on GERD but the one symptom that I haven't been able to find anywhere is the fact that the noise occurs when I move or rotate my upper torso. Is there any diseases that you've heard of that only present themselves when movement is done?
I just talked to my mom and she said when I was young I had bronchitis and that the doctor back then said it would probably re-appear.
To be honest I dont know what those symptoms are. The thing that has me worried is the fact that it happens when I move leading me to believe there could be some sort of tumor causing this?
It is difficult to say without evaluation.
Lung issues are possible, and can be evaluated with a chest x-ray, pulmonary function tests, or more comprehensive imaging like a CT scan.
A lump in the throat can be caused by GERD or post-nasal drip. A referral to an ENT where a laryngoscopy can be discussed. GERD and other upper GI disorders can be evaluated with an endoscopy or upper GI series.
If the tests are non-diagnostic, treating anxiety can be considered - as this can mimic some of the symptoms you describe.
A referral to the appropriate specialist (either ENT, pulmonary or GI) can be considered.
These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
