caelyx treatment CA125

Hello all,

My wife has since july 2004 ovarian cancer. She has had major surgery and 8 treatments of carbo/taxol withour full response. After that she has had 20 treatments of caelyx with good response and after a year of rest (no chemo) she started again with caelyx. The CA125 is now dropping starting from 260-180 and latest 145 (measured every week) but her stomach feeling is getting worse. She can only have drink fluid at the latest weeks and she vomats almost every day. Has somebody the same experience that CA125 is getting lower but complaints still getting worse ?

Dear Vince:

It is possible that your wife may have a bowel obstruction due to the tumors(she can't take solid food and she vomits almost everyday). I would ask for an x-ray. I hope this helps.

Hello. Your wife has had a lot of Caelyx... 20 treatments is a lot. Just wondering if her Doctor has had a test done on her heart, as Caelyx can cause heart damage. Could be worth mentioning to her Doctor. I've had Caelyx, but only 4 treatments. It did work well for me, but I had large, sore mouth ulcers... the only side affect, but they were terrible. I'm not sure why your wife would feel so ill if the chemo is working. Have you asked her Oncol. about this? Also ask about the heart scan too.
I hope your wife will soon be feeling much better. Best wishes to you both...Helen..
