5 year old peer sexual activity - confused.

My son, who is 5 years old, went to the bathroom at school with two other boys.  Long story short - they engaged in anal sex with him and each other.  My son has been exhibiting personality changes for a few months, including self-depreciating comments, eye ticks, signs of depression, and even a few suicidal comments.  I'm glad to finally know what the basis for his sadness is, and we are getting him into counseling as soon as possible.  I'm curious if anyone has heard of this type of activity within a very young peer group before.  I've been unable to find anything online.  I am also trying to gather information on school liability and on how to report a private school.  I will be contacting a lawyer soon...but first things first, and settling my kids in a new school and getting counseling are priority right now.

Was your son able to tell you a coherent version of events? Were the other children interviewed? For young children to behave in such a sexually explicit manner at that age usually means exposure to sexually overstimulating material at a minimum or frank sexual abuse. Please tell the school so others can be protected and the boys can get much needed help.

Sadly it does happen at any age. I would be extremely concerned about how the other two boys knew about that stuff at such a young age. I would hope along with counseling and liability issues, you will have the parents of the two boys checked out by DSF. It is not uncommon for kids to explore at that age but this went way passed that and they had to have learned it somewhere. I would get a lawyer asap as well as a counselor. He needs to learn that it was not his fault and get some coping skills while is is fresh in his mind. Good luck
