Hobbies

Hey guys,

We need some hobbies to replace dope.  I was thinking I could start a thread and we could list 'normal' things we like to do for fun besides pop pills and stare at the wall, what do you say?  I'll go first..

1. Coaching baseball
2. Cross-stitching
3. Taking pictures
4. Cooking
5. Going for walks
6. Crafts with my daughter
7. Writing
8. Watching scary movies
9. Feeding ducks
10.Scrabble

i love the walks, and taking picturs is my favorite pastime, i have a 1yo grandson and i can take some pics of him.  my hubby and i also go to flea market (kinda goes with walkin), the big open air ones and hold hands and walk around and laugh...which leads me to the hobby of all laughing, again.

this is such a good idea jenny - I need ideas and inspiration from others. Before getting clean 8 years ago, my life consisted of heroin and other drugs, and the getting of more of those drugs. I got clean, and work/study took up most of my time (workaholic tendencies) and then the pain pills came along. If ppl ask me what are my hobbies, I usually change the subject because I don't know what to say- and I think this is one problem that contributed to my recent relapse - bored and no fun activities to replace pills with. So for me:
walking
reading a glossy magazine at a cafe with a cappucino
my pussycat
getting dressed up and going into town for a nice dinner
reading, especially books on spirituality, self help, psychology
talking with girlfriends
cooking new dishes

I look forward to reading other peoples hobbies, good post!

Great idea!!!!
1.) I love to take pictures of my family and then I scrapbook my photos. Very time consuming sometimes but I LOVE it.
2.) Sometimes just hangin' out with my BIG Boxer puppy Ozzy works for me. He's a BIG part of my family.
3.) Riding bikes with my little girls, who just learned to ride with NO training wheels about a month ago.
4.) I LOVE to cook for my family, and they LOVE to eat my meals...(they better or they'll go hungry, jk LOL)
5.) Letting my little girls do my make-up for the day...this is just inspirational to me....the glimmer in their eyes when I say YES to them that they can do it....(of course I don't go ANYWHERE that day???duh)
6.) The game called LIFE....which my WHOLE family loves to play. If you've never played it I highly recommend it, it's awesome.

I also look forward to hearing what other's hobbies are. Very neat idea!!

Ironically, I find the 'best' use of my time is studying.  I'm not in school - rather, I am studying for certifications in my profession.  I think it helps me feel 'better' about my past - and that I'm on the right path (20 days sobriety today).
The cold winters in the Rocky Mountains are upon us - thus, 'walks' are out of the question (it's 16 degree's here).  I use the treadmill for my 2 miles a day though - which helps.  I'm also thinking of setting up a wood working shop in the garage.  I've also wanted to start working on stained glass - let all that 'creative' energy out and about!

I love all your ideas...l have some too.

Dancing in front of the mirror while you sing as loud as you can

Speaking in a foriegn accent for an entire day...you know just show up to work and speak like your from ireland or something...and dont stop no matter how much your co workers bug you about it

Where your hair in a side ponytail, with peg pants, & puff painted keds.

By the musical instrament youve allways wanted to play, and play it, even it sounds uncool

Kerokee (cant spell..thats ok I have bigger problems), but really get in to it, cry if can.

watch the sun set as you listen to your fav songs

Watch What About Bob its my fav movie...baby steps.

everytime a friend comes to your house force them to create some form of art preferably a statue or painting, then display it....much cheaper then bying art and it means more.

Let your kids stay up way too late, eat way too much candy, and watch lots of tv, and join them, your only a kid once dam it.

Try to write poetry...then share it, with someone you don't know very well.

Donate all clothes you havent worn in 1 year.  If you dont donate it force yourself to wear it, then rethink donating it.

Dairy Queen, blizzards.  I love diping my fries in choch. shake, anyone else?

Just be really nice to that mean person you know and see how they react, no matter how mean they get just be nicer and nicer, and more understanding.

Look in the dictionary for a word you do not know, and make it the word of the day, use is as much as you can, even if its a bit odd.

and for real real
dont do pills
be a good mom
laugh (even if you force laugh it usually turns into a real one)
be kind to others
dont avoid your problems/issues
dont forget to eat
exercise
and if things get overwhelming, dont think about everything just think about that very moment...baby steps.
