Haunting dreams

It has been fairly easy to resist opiates. However these haunting dreams have been coming to me at night. Such as using dilaudid and other phams. Is this something ill live with my entire life? Dreams have such a strong effect on me.Its like a primal drive to use. And it often starts my day off to a bumpy start. Any thought or support would help.

Yeah, i hated the using dreams. The worst ones were coming down off benzos. I had the most vivid, paranormal in nature nightmares that really scared me straight. There were instances where I swore I was physically picked up and slammed back on the bed. It actually made me not want to sleep but then the paranoia at night was unbearable at times.

It goes away for the most part. I still have them occasionally, but it doesn't bother me anymore.

These sort of dreams are pretty common and will go away.  Keep yourself busy after you have one as i know they are very troublesome.          sara

Can you (if you feel comfortable) explain what they are about? I am guessing they are about using. If that is what it is, it's not just opiates that do this. When people use drugs for a decent amount of time they will dream about them while doing them and after stopping.

When I was doing meth I would have dreams of my mouth and jaw grinding (I was doing it in real life), but I was spun in the dream and the amount of pressure I felt in my jaw in my dreams was intense. After I stopped doing meth for good, I still would get the dreams, still do actually. They don't happen to much anymore but every now and then I get them.

It shouldn't last forever but even if it never completely goes away, it really should slow down to where you are only having them once a month to once every 4 months and so on. I only have those dreams of feeling "high" occasionally and when they do happen, they don't affect me to the point I want to actually get high.

There are techniques people use to somewhat control dreams. I have done some of them and it might be worth looking into. I would suggest doing this before trying to use medications to avoid the dreams. I understand that's not what you said you wanted to do, it's just that most of the time when people have dream/sleep issues, they turn to medications. Well, actually they go to a psych and THEY prescribe the medications. If you feel professional help is needed because it gets to be to much of a problem, please consider going to a therapist first. There is a great chance that a therapist can help you with your problems even such as this and you wouldn't need medications. If a therapist cannot help you, they will tell you and refer you to a psych. Also, just because the first therapist don't work out, dosen't mean that therapists won't work.

Good luck :-)
