Just an observation

In my short 41 years on this earth, and the presidential elections that I can remember, they all start and end the same way.  Everyone is crazy for a candidate and fights tooth and nail to have them elected into office.  Then after 4 years or they may even hang on for 8 years, the very people who was so excited about getting this person into office are ready for someone else.  I have said it before and I will say it again, two things my father always said about candidates for any type of office: (1)  If they aren't crooked when they go in, they are when the go out.  (2)  They go in as the most loved person in the country and go out as the most hated.

I try my best not to push my views on others because, as this country was founded, it was founded on "FREEDOM OF CHOICE".  My choice is McCain and has been from day one.  Obama has some points that I do agree on, but there are some things about him that I just can't get passed, so I will cast my vote for McCain.

I can tell you that in Utah, I have not seen any McCain smear commercials or have I heard any of that.  But, Obama has put out smear commercials on McCain here.  I suppose it's because Utah usually votes Republican.  I believe the smears have gone both ways.  But, to me, some of what others think are smears on Obama are just plain truth.  Like I said, before that's just my opinion.

I have to agree with magi and mary. In 2000 I would have voted for McCain if he hadn't been smeared out of the nomination by Bush Co. I had respect for him then and I still have respect for him today- although the tactics his campaign has used have been- in my opinion- appalling. I want to believe that it was his " handlers" that chose to go the dirty fighting route but the fact is a campaign is a microcosm of an administration- how it is organized and run, who is in on the decision making- are predictors of what is to come.
I only hope that whoever prevails can reunite the people after such an ugly, divisive and meanspirited season. It will be hard for some to give up the fear, hate and distrust that they have been soaking in.

I'm curious about why you think McCain's age is a bad deal........?

I guess you could be concerned about his death and then who would follow afterwards, but if that isn't it, could you share?

Other than McCain's age and who he picked for VP, I think if McCain had been himself, and not trying to please this one and that one, he would have come off better. The real McCain is a good man, but like Mary said "he doesn't trust his own judgement" and has fallen prey to the pressures of his parties "big guys" and to the lobbyists of big business. It's a shame, he should have just been John McCain.

Interesting point.  It takes a lot of arse kissing to become president.  You can only hope that when they reach the presidency they have maintained some morals.

I have been extremely impressed by Obama's campaign and the respect they have shown McCain. Obama defended Palin and her daughters pregnancy. He has shown much respect for McCain's service to his country. On the other hand ......I haven't liked McCain and Palin's attacks on Obama.  They are trying to divide our country even further than it already is.
Obama has been trying to bring our country together.  If Obama wins, I think people will be happily surprised at how he reaches out to both sides.

My opinion......I think McCain is a better man than his campaign has represented. When he took the microphone from that women that was saying.... she was afraid of Obama because he ...is  ah ....ah....ah... duh....Arab.  That was the real McCain coming through. I think he would be winning if he took control of his campaign instead of letting Bush's fear mongers run it.  This also tells me ....he doesn't trust his own judgement.
If Obama wins, and runs the country as he has run his campaign...I will be happy.
