If you must be on a medication because of pain, methadone is a very good choice. It is one of the most friendly meds in the way that it treats your body and organs. It is really a good choice for a long term answer to pain. It is a very nasty drug to withdraw from - that is true. But follow a doctors advice and be totally truthful to the doctor.

Hi, I just noticed your post and you have posted in the social forum.  Post in the addiction, substance abuse forum as it is much more active.
I have never taken methadone but if you read some of the threads in the substance abuse forum about it, you will never go near it.
It is highly addictive and pure hell to get off of.
You wrote on your profile that you have a history of addiction so I don't think you should even think about taking anything without consulting your doctor.
You have a beautiful family and your whole life ahead of you.  Don't let it be ruined by drugs.  You have to be so careful as you already know what addiction is like.
Please, please talk to your doctor about your pain and work out a solution with him or her.
Good luck and if you want more advice, post in the substance abuse forum.  Lots of really great people there.
