There is a reason why in Canada there is a sign in every pharmacy that states
WE HAVE NO OXCODONE ON THE PREMISES
ALL OXYCODONE PRESCRIPTIONS MUST BE SPECIAL ORDERED.
Notice this sign doesn't say opiates.
Just Oxy.
Now why do you think that is? I really think Doctors should be better educated about the medications they prescribe. The pharmacists know. But not the doctors unless they are specialized in a certain field like pain management, psychiatry etc. I know that the laws on Pharma reps are way stricter now in Canada. They are no longer allowed to give kick backs, or trips, or even take Docs out for dinner or golfing in order to sell drugs. I hope this makes a difference- but so far I'm not seeing any.
When I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago and saw the OB GYN specialist the first words out of his mouth were that I should be on methadone, oxycodone, or Fentanyl for my pain. I am hoping he was checking to see if I was drug seeking (being that this was our first meeting) and he isn't actually seriously putting his endo patients on these meds as STARTER drugs. He hadn't even looked at my file before he offered these things up. I was so emphatic about my dislike for these particular meds that he let it drop. I told him about my six year battle with pain, illness, and opiates and he backed off a bit. But still.
And years ago when I went off opiates the first time but was still in debilitating pain I was sent to the pain clinic at the hospital. It was a great program with pain psychologists, physiotherapists, and counsellers that taught meditation and coping strategies etc. But out of 20 patients there I was the ONLY one not on opiates. Most of the patients had chronic back pain and were on methadone or oxy. I was BY FAR the patient with the most serious illness and pain issues but I was the ONLY one who was looking for alternatives. The rest were just filling their duty to participate as per their physicians orders. They spent a great deal talking amongst themselves about what drug was best while complaining about the stretching and lidocaine injections that were being offered. OMG! If lidocaine injections and stretching would help my pain I would JUMP at it. Unfortunately, I had to go back on the opiates because I was soon diagnosed with Stage 4 endo and had to have two surgeries back to back. But as soon as my second surgery was successful I began to taper. I told my doctor I really wanted off opiates and didn't want to take anything that made me high. She had just been to a pharama conference about pain meds and suggested a new med called Targin which was oxycontin and nalexone. I thought because it had an agonist and antagonist it would be better. NOPE. It was awful and after 2 months I went cold turkey.
The whole thing is so sick and twisted.
Weaver are you serious?
The cops are reading your personal internet accounts?
That seems crazy to me too.
IDK what to say.
Something needs to be done about pharma but I don't know what. In the meantime all we can do is educate ourselves and as many people as possible so that they don't end up where we've been.

Yeah, this really has nothing to do with getting clean, so it really belongs in this forum. It is good to vent and know we aren't the only ones who feel like we do and we are not crazy. I am battling with corruption on many levels right now, and I am paying the price for other's mistakes. I try to deal with resentments, but every week a new issue arises that throws it in my face. This week, it has been daily. We as a people must demand accountability in our system, for this ship is sinking, everyone in the world can see it but us. Since I went legal and straight, my mind is better, but my life keeps getting worse, even my banker, teacher, and clients are amazed at how much I'm getting shafted, even though I am doing all that is asked of me. Man, this is hard. Good thing I feel stable, seems like I have been shafted over and over since I quit my psych meds. Maybe they want me locked up, the cops said they at reading my medhelp account, so. I am sure my comments on threads like this aren't helping. Anyway, gotta go online to try and clear my accounts and stop my identity from being used against me.
I've been watching this thread wondering when they were going to move it! :))
Study history, what defines an empire and how many last? God doesn't rule our country, I see Americas fall as an act of God, destroying evil. America is the archetype around the world of gluttony and corruption, taking taxes and helping the people less and less. Kindof sounds like the Ottomon, Egyptian, British, roman, and Babylonian Empires. If we as people don't put our nation in check, God will. We rule the world and set a hedonistic standard, and most of don't even know it, we are caught up in out comfort and pleasures while the rest of the world starves and rages against us. It will be sad when the empire falls, it always is, but who wants to be dominated by an empire? It will be a time of pain and loss for many. Let's hope people realize it and stand up against corruption and injustice in time.
Hi Weaver,
Nice to see you and thanks for your great input. You say that money is the deciding factor in America, not safety which unfortunately is obviously the truth. But doesn't this put America on a collision course with complete disaster? I mean it can continue for years and cause havoc and destruction upon the people but eventually something will happen I don't know what but I just don't see evil winning over the long term.
Or maybe evil will win this time after all they hold all the cards. I just cant believe that they are prosacutting young ppl for smoking a joint and at the same time handing out highly addictive narcotics that destroy lives like they are candy. And then they expect ppl to respect the laws when they are doing everything to weaken ppl's respect for their country and its laws.
By the way, they made similar changes to Opana, ER Opana doesn't really work for pain anymore.
Here, here, Tony! Couldn't agree more re: the FDA. It's a travesty!
Oxy is the closest thing to synthetic heroin, hence the euphoria and high addiction potential. I knew about the info jinx shared, but had not heard off additives to make Oxy more addictive, not sure that's needed. Opiate induced hyoeralgesia causes the need for more and more to stop the pain, that is a natural effect of opiates, the stronger they are, the worse the hyper-Algessia. Without additives, there is plenty of proof to take it off the market. The head of FDA was the head of Monsanto, who are known to break laws and biomass the FDA, I totally see how the FDA approves illegal substances, GMO's, and any other product that the profit out weighs the risk. The FDA is more out to protect the Big Companies than the people, no conspiracy, just blatant corruption. Study the law suites about Food and Drugs Associated to death and disease. It is scary how many settle out of court and the corruption continues. I don't think you are crazy, Though likely don't see the whole picture, it is obvious that money is the deciding factor in America, not safety.
there is a HUGE difference between the oxy 2009 and before and the oxy now. HUGE and i do not think it is for the better.
there are 2 cancer causing toxins in the new oxy to prevent abuse. canada and other countries refuse to allow those ingredients and therefore; do not currently have oxy, purdue tried to make a tamper proof one for other countries called oxyneo or something like that, but it did not work.
many people on the new oxy develop severe gi problems and the effectiveness is 20-30% less. blood serum levels are way lower than they should be.
shame on the FDA for allowing those toxins to be distributed, but then again big pharma RUNS OUR COUNTRY.
I don't know, nor have I read any evidence to support it- but I believe that oxy does have something in it that makes it far more addictive than any other opiate. Both times I've been switched to Oxy from other pain meds i experienced a crazy euphoric high and became almost manic when I was on it. I never slept and experienced the back pain of which you speak. Both times the switch was made I went cold turkey within a month as I was terrified. I've had to take pain meds many times over the years for my chronic pain and illness. Oxy is the only drug that made me feel like an addict. It was the only drug that I craved because of the 'energy' it gave me. Being sick and exhausted this was exciting to me at first. And then scary as hell because of the mania I mentioned. There is a reason that it is the #1 abused prescription medication IN THE WORLD. Here in Canada it is a 10 billion dollar a year industry.
Recently, a specialist I saw at the hospital tried to switch me to oxy saying that his endo patients got the most relief from it. I don't think it's a better pain killer. I think it makes you feel so high that you don't care you are in pain. Personally, I will never ever put it into my body again. Not even if I had a gun pointed at my head. Okay....maybe that's a little extreme and dramatic but you get my point.
I, like you, was in 90% less pain the second time I went off oxy. The first time I still had bad pain issues because I hadn't had the surgery that fixed me (temporarily) yet, the second time I had.
So I agree and I really don't think doctors should prescribe oxy for chronic pain, or for more than a few days for acute pain. End of story. But, that is just my humble opinion.

Sure here is where read that info:

Not saying its true just saying I felt that exact same stabbing pain up my whole back every day while I was on the Oxy. I have never had that pain again since I stopped 49 days ago.
Mark,
Can you supply us with a link to this article? Can you source it? ;)
Thanks!
