H1N1 Vaccine

How many are 'for' having healthy children (13 yrs old) vaccinated?

How many 'against'?

My son's school is offering them.  I just don't know.  Dont want to make the wrong decision.  My instincts say not to have him vaccinated.  Ive heard a lot of negative things about the vaccination.  But I also don't want to get caught up in the negative hype and keep him from getting it if its important.  There is SO much negative and positive hype.  I am just confused.

i agree with you and most others on this issue. I feel that their is to much unknown about this and they were pressed to quickly get a vaccine ready in fear of the BIG outbreak...media..gotta love em : )

wow, interesting reading this..so far no one here wants the vax. I know of only like 2 people in my circle of family and friends who are going to get the shot when its available too. At this point i just cant bring myself to get my kids the shot, even after my 6 yr old is recovering from pneumonia right now. I didnt let them get the chicken pox vax either. THe only ones they had are the mandatory by law ones (MMR) and my 4 yr old did get a tetanus shot after he cut his face open on a rusty water trough about a year and half ago and had to get stitches. Thats all though.

Its making me crazy.

What my instincts tell me is not to have him vaccinated.

I tend to believe the reports that the swine flu is no more dangerous than the regular flu and more people die each year from the regular flu than expected from the swine flu.

Then again there are reports stating that its much more life threatening and like beatingthis said - its worse on children.

Signing the form stating I am rejecting the vaccine for him makes me feel awful too.

In the end I am going to go with my first instinct though and not accept the vaccination.

I wouldn't get the kid vacicnated, he!! I wouldn't get the dog vaccinated.  Not if its coming from a big Pharma.  After the year I've had, dealing with the fall out from RXing myself almost to death, I have absolutely no confidence in anything being put out by Pharma co.
Expecially after they have rushed it through the process so they can get richer, I mean to help the public.  In the past I would take anything the Dr. offered.  Now after detox/wd'ing practically all year, I find myself with a huge phobia of any Rx.  I cant even bring myself to take the allergy meds the dr wants me to take.      The vaccine may be harmless, but I think as for me and mine, we'll pass.

really tuff call. For me I am not going to get it but I think the younger should. This virus is mostley affecting our younger children, school age children. collage aged children 70% of people in the hosspitals fighting this are under 25 years old. Ya see us old farts have it covered!

Every family has to make ther own decision.

When you WORK in a hospital.. they (sometimes) require you to SIGN A WAVER stating WHY you (refuse) to have/take the vacination.. Not sure why and  I would apprecitate any input and/or responses to this....

I just work there...

My THEORY goes that my HUSBAND got THE SWINE FLU shot back in the 70's and ended up with Gillian Barre syndrome... sooooo with that said... (AND the FACT that I'm ALLERGIC to eggs) I'm NOT going to get it...NOR my husband  (who FLAT out refuses to get it) or our 17 year old son...

AND... I work in a hospital that makes you SIGN A WAVER FOR NOT getting vaccinated.....

Hope this doesn't hinder your health.. it's just my in put.

Be healthy and HAPPY with WHATEVER your choice is!

Schools, daycares, etc are definately the place that it would spread like wildfire...but I am just not convinced that the virus is as big of a prolblem as they are claiming it to be.

Hopefully we are not wrong about that.

Not doing the Vax here either for the same reasons you two have listed.  although if you are frightened of bad side effects/sickness from the shots, the more time that passes the more you might get assured its "safe" to do if there are no reports of people having problems from the vax.

Thanks!

I have the same feelings as you.. and have been researching too.. I just want to make sure Im not being less concerned than I should be. Ive know of 3 people who have had it (one with a compromised immune system) and they all came through ok.  It is easy to start panicking about it though.  I keep getting letters from the school every few weeks concerning the dangers of the flu and now they are offering the vaccine at the school and sent around consent forms.

We dont ever even get the normal seasonal flu shot.  My son is hardly EVER sick since having his tonsils out back in 06. In fact the past 2 years he has made 'perfect attendence'.

Anyway thanks for responding.

yeah...it's very confusing.

I have a son who is 5.  I WILL NOT be vaccinating him.  It's just too new....too many uncertainties.  I honestly don't believe that H1N1 is as big of a problem as they (the media) are making it out to be.  I have put a lot of time and energy into researching and thinking about the whole thing...and I am just too uncertain to make a decision to vaccinate.  I don’t believe that our government knows the long term effects of these vaccines and personally...I think they are kinda using us as guinea pigs to see if it works like they plan.  This is very reminiscent of a situation they had back in the 70's I believe......a big flu scare, and they rushed to make and distribute vaccines, and come to find out, in the long term, the vaccine that was given to mass population was making people sick.  I even think there was a big class action law suit that was filed against the government.  (Don’t quote me on that, but I remember reading something about it while researching H1N1.)

At least as of now....I will continue to monitor the whole situation, stress habits like washing hands, and covering the mouth when coughing, and keep an eye on other kids as they are around mine....but that's about all I am doing at this point.  I hope I don't come to regret that one day....but at this point...it's all I am doing.
