Day 4 w/ Questions

I'm doing pretty well. My only symptom now and since last night is lack of energy. I'm sleeping well, only had one bout of anxiety this whole time, can keep food and fluids in my system and the aches seem to have passed. The mental fog appears to be clearing, and it's leaving me with questions.

Aftercare. I have researched NA meetings in my area and intend to go. If you've also attended NA, how long after your detox did you wait, or did you wait at all? I don't feel quite up to going yet, but think I'll be good to go as of next Monday.

Pain management. I'm having surgery in the next month or two (no date set yet). It's major and will have me down for 4-6 weeks. Pain meds will be required both in hospital and once I'm home. If, for example, I'm given Demerol after the surgery, does my clean time revert back to zero?

Regarding pain medication. When you take pain meds after surgery, for pain, no it does not change your clean time. It's never the drug. It's the behaviour.
Remember that. Anytime you need to manage pain, you should take what's prescribed, in the amounts prescribed IF YOU NEED IT.
Make a plan about the distribution of your pain meds before surgery.

As far as NA goes, just go,as soon as you can. If you're too weak right now, wait until you're strong enough to leave the house.  The point is to do whatever you can to maintain your sobriety, NA is one of the vehicles to help.

You're doing great!  Be patient with the energy returning,It's only day four...
