Thats the simple way of putting it. There is a more technical explanation, but it's pretty dry and gets into greek and latin letters and chemistry models, LoL

When you reach the peak of your wd's depends on what you were taking and the half life of those pills. Some take longer to get out of your system than others.  You are at 43 hours now so you should be through the worst of it. You will slowly start feeling better day by day now, it takes time for all those opioid receptors to calm down. Think of it like scraping your knee. the nerves near the surface of the skin get exposed and are very sensitive, but as the scab forms the pain fades as well. When you started taking pain killers, the brain and other areas that have opiod receptors stop making endorphins- which are the brains natural pain killers.
When you stop opiates, it takes time for the brain to start producing endorphins again.

What these pain killers really do is act as artificial endorphins- stronger ones. So when you stop them the opiod receptors are like raw nerves begging for more opiates to cover them up.

Endorphins also control depression, so when you take pain killers, they take the place of this function too. Thats why you get depressed when you go through withdrawl.

So what should you do to help the brain start making endophins faster? Follow the advice like those in the thomas recipe. Or feed the brain and body the things it needs most to produce lots of endorphins.

Everyone detoxes differently hun.... Immodium helps with some of the tummy issues, I took that for about a week. You've made it 2 days, just keep swimming dude. Ever seen Finding Nemo? That's what I kept telling myself through that first week.... just keep swimming.... just keep swimming.... just keep swimming..... It's gonna be a tough few days but you will get better.... no sense in turning back now, you're halfway there!

I found this forum a great place for support... it seems like there are more people on here in the evening or night time, but that might be because I'm on eastern time.... Old movies are great because you don't really have to pay attention to know whats going on and they are moderately entertaining..... depending on your age.... I love the movies from the mid to late 80s....
About the pills, you're gonna want more of them at some point. It's important to cut off your supply, whether you tell your doc that you don't want any refills or cut yourself off from your dealer(s)... either way, you're going to be tempted, and if you can still access them, it's more likely that you will use again...."I been clean for..... it won't hurt me to use just one or two"... next thing you know it's 6 months later and you're back in this boat only worse..... just ask around on this forum.... lots of us relapse.
Not trying to be a downer.... I'm just offering advise... things that have helped me through the past 39 days. It's a battle that you can win though.... one day at a time!

This is normal. I know you've tried to stop a few times before so don't let this slow you down!  It shouldn't get worse but may be up and down like this for a few days.

Do you have pills in the house?  You should get rid of anything you have, okay? Boredom and lonliness are major triggers!

It's great that you have an appt. tomorrow!  Let us know how that goes...

You're probably gonna run the whole gammet of emotions.... the thing is, without the pills, you are feeling again. I started detoxing pretty quickly but was taking a relatively high dose of percocet. I peaked around day 4- mostly because I was exhausted- then slowly, ever so slowly, I started feeling better. I am 39 days in and feel great- comparitively speaking anyway. Counseling is a good idea, as is a support group. Drink LOTS of water and exercise if you can. Keep posting! Keep up the great work!
