im in recovery, my drug of choice is well getting high and changing the way I feel. I do not use Tylenol pm, or nightquil because I do not want to wake up the beast of my addiction. I have tmj and my dr. prescribed me zanaflex. im scared to take it because I do not want it to change the way I feel or wake up my beast, yet at the same time I think that if I gave the pills to my mom to give it to me as directed and only, only when I need it for my jaw. but I am scared and worried that ill convince myself that my jaw is hurting just to take the pill. anybody else out there have experience in this situation?

Be very careful with this medication. My doctor said it was non addictive when I started to take it to get off methadone for my back surgery. It can make you dizzy and very sleepy and I have fallen on several occasions injuring myself, It's dangerous so BEWARE if used properly it's okay but you start taking more and more just like any narcotic because you use a little bit more and more etc. I have stopped taking it for a few days now and I don't feel well at all, My doctor said I could take up to 9 a day and I was taking 300 a month than up to 540 per month which is my fault, I have an addictive personality, so I used it to sleep. I wasn't working so I would take more and more and before I knew it I had slept for 12-14 hours everyday and I lost my girlfriend because I didn't tell her than I had a heart attack and had to tell the surgeon all I was taking and she was upset. Someone said you can become dependant I say no you become addicted and I am paying the price right now, good luck I will pray for you!

Hey if you see this please holler back I'd like to talk. Did you actually have a heart attack bc of taking to many? I take at times 10 of the 4mg and every few hrs pop some more. I'm scared every day that something is gonna happen but it's like I can't help myself. I even get sick from taking so many and I've been getting an infection every few mths that they run allllll kinds of test with no answers where it's from. I can't tell them the truth of how many I take. It's embarrassing!!! I need help for sure

toby,
alot of the dizziness should pass as your body adusts to the meds.

It must affect each person differently.. I am on 4mgs twice per day and it has never made me dizzy.. or sleepy for that matter.. maybe i have built a tolerance for muscle relaxers..

My blood pressure is rising because of the pain from aherniated disk.  I just feel funny from the dizziness. I never had that problem while on the hydrocodone.  I am just glad that my grandkids are at daycare this morning.  I just hope it's a sideaffect that goes away with time.  Otherwise I don't know What to do.

I've been using it for a very long time and it works great.  I can actually take 2mg during the day and it doesn't make me sleepy.  My pain specialist says it has minimal potential for addiction and essentially no withdrawal symptoms.

I use it as well and i really like it.. its long lasting and has been helping me with my pain and spasms from Fibromyalgia..
With any drug that acts this way there is always a small chance of dependency but not in the same way as opiates or benzo's  its more like you can have the opposite happen when you stop taking then it effected you when you were on it.. so spasms can worsen or muscles can tighten.. some restlessness stuff like that not withdrawals..

Thank You, for the info, I hate using new meds. and I was worried about getting hooked on it. I guess I'll wait untill bedtime to start taking it. I just hope it helps with the pain in my muscles. I am on the verge of High blood pressure. Thanks again, gotta go get my grandson from daycare. I just worry more about meds. when I have to take care of him. Have a good evening.
Thanks and God Bless

Zanaflex is a muscle relaxant also that suppose to block the nerve impules of pain to the brain. Your not going to get high on it so there addiction problem there and it can lower blood pressure if thats a issue. Thats about all i remember.
