About to start

Well I have decided to stop using opiates. I have been using about 8 months.I started out small as I am sure everybody does, and graduated to a 15 pill a day addiction to norco 10.So I read the Thomas recipe, and I am going to get all of it today. I have klonopin and ambien and A muscle relaxer. I also have an anti depressant that I take. so basically I start tomorow. I have norco left that I plan on taking today so I don't have anymore. I have never gone through a withdrawal before, and I pray I never will again. I am christian and I cant believe this road I have taken.God has been so good to me and its like I am just giving him the middle finger doing all these drugs. I know he will forgive me because I Have accepted Christ but I feel a tremendous amount of guilt. So I have a few questions. How long until I don't have bad withdrawal symptoms? This weekend there is a church event that I want to attend. It starts Friday. today is Saturday. Will I be able to go? I have not been in a long time and I want to go.I will need your support. I know that you hear this everyday from new people and I appreciate the effort that people put into this site.

Thank you

Hey Pleasehelpme ----  The decision whether to quit CT or taper is a personal one --- many people on this site have gotten clean and then said that there was just no way they could ever taper -- they say that if they had drugs they would have used them.  So, the bottom line is - only you can decide which system you will use.  You will never get a consensus.  If you feel you can do it then by all means - go CT --- Like I told you, it will be faster and just depends on your own will power.  Please though, by all means - -continue to post and read on this site --- you will be helped and you can offer encouragement and help to others as you also get free.  All the best -- I look forward to hearing more from you on how you are doing.

ultram will help a little ,it's not a narcotic but works on the same opiate receptors as does hydros, it is addictive and you dont want to trade one addiction for another.oh and its nearly impossible to die by quitting cold turkey,so dont be too concerned about that.if you had 100 norcos like you said, iwould use this as a taper.      the first 4 days 6 pills the next 4 days 5 pills, and so on,this will leave you with 16 pills left.just dont retract during this process or it will just set you back.good luck

8 monthes is not a long time...and u were not using this dose for the full 8 months?   going for it is ur plan..sometimes it is not good to deviate from our plan,,,tapering can make it easier/less intense but feeling bad for a much longer period of time as no taper is pain free/but tapering is hard/u can lose motivation and it is so tempting to cheat...u decide but u can go for it and see how it goes..using other narcotics to ease the blow r not usually recommended as addiction can occur to the new narcotic so be safe..people who work often use a small amt of their doc or a weaker narcotic to get to the weekend or their time off...sleep as much as u can during this time and get some books and vides..it is a short time u will feel bad in the scheme of thins

You will not die --  but you will feel like He!!  ----- many have actually done this CT so it can be done - just takes some strong will power ----  If you decide to taper down then you probably need someone to hold and dispense your pills.  If you can stand it then go ahead and go CT but be prepared to suffer some --- at least it will be over more quickly that way.  All the best -- Please keep posting and let everyone here know your decision and how you are doing.

broknbck is giving you good advice although its not going to be so easy.going cold turkey after 15 10mg's of norco is going to be hell it's good to have the klonopin and the ambien, not being able to sleep *****,thats when you'll feel most comfe.if you could get your hands on another script and ween yourself off you'd be in much better shape.i just realized that your church event isn't until next friday .you might be ok.i would still try and get a script,it will be so much easier, but you have to ween or else your gonna be in the same boat.good luck and keep us posted.we're here to help

well if i am reading that right, you are on about 150 mg/ a day?

hmmm- that is pretty high to be coming off of cold turkey. is there anyway that you can aquire more and do a taper? the withdrawl is much less and recovery smoother. but then it will involve some time (a month) and you will still be uncomfortable and maybe not able to do your regular routine.

if you are doing the cold turkey tomorrow than you will just have to dig in and be prepared for the worst.

you will be needing some ammodium and better to have it on hand before it starts.
also lots of water, or teas something to drink without caffiene in it. and try to limit your sugars too.

some bland foods to eat like eggs, oatmeal, crackers. anything that is easy on the stomache.

is the muscle relaxer for sleep? because it always put me out. if not some over the counter benadryl usually works or the herb melatonin.

the first day will not be the worst. but the next few will.
then people are starting to gradually get better.
it may takes weeks or since you have not been on it that long it may be very mild or even nothing.

the bathroom issue comes up with just about everyone, because the opiates have been supressing that daily funtion and yeah- it will be going all the way to the opposite now.

if you are living in a cold climate- you may want to be near a hot tub or fireplace, space heater, heating blanket.  basically you are going to be very cold.

i hope you do not the bad symptoms- some don't. but it is good to ready for it anyway.
you will make it through like lots of people here have. and the anti depressant should help. make sure and read what all the drug interactions with it are.  i was on cymbalta when i quit and it was fine.

Everyone is different when it comes to wd time but generally the worst is over within 4-5 days. You'll likely feel tired, depressed and 'off' for longer tho. The anti-depressant will be quite helpful. I'd also encourage you to start taking a multi-vitamin or something similar. Check the Amino Acid protocol for a listing of helpful items. You may be able to it to the event next Friday... but everyone is different. Hang in there -  the wds will pass. Make sure you drink lots of water and hot baths are recommended when feeling icky. Keep posting
