Anti Depressants

Dr put me on anti depressives.  Before my relapse and injury I was a happy guy.  My brain is clearing up and thats the depression.  I'd like not to take them.  By the time the med starts working I could be out of this depression. What do some of you think? Bless YOu

Well guy I'm glad you saw your doctor, it really depends on how bad/down you feel and if you think you can handle it on your own. Or you can give the meds a shot and see what happens. You can always stop them. I was against AD's and was feeling very down, sad, angry at everything and everybody and they put me on Cymbalta, I almost stopped after a week, but I can honestly say after 2 weeks I felt different and now I'm at around 6 weeks and feel so much better... so I'm sticking with them for a while. Good luck to you with whatever you decide.

Hey Super - glad to see you went to doc.  Well yes you are right - IF - you were a happy guy before then by the time the AD work you might be feeling better.  I think AD are great for people who need them and/or just really long drawn out depression from detoxing.  Most take several weeks to really work.  For me personally I wouldn't want to be on them if I didn't need them and for short term depression from detox - but that is me.  My goal was to get off all pills not add add'l pills.

Now IF you have chronic pain that does come with a little depression and you may find the AD help that or some even use Cymbalta to help with fibro pain - so AD are not specially always just for depression.  The depression I do experience from time to time is specifically related to my pain levels - chronic pain makes you feel hopeless.

Since you do have chronic pain and are on them, give them a try and see how you feel over the next month - it certainly couldn't hurt.  Think of it as one more tool in your kit.  If after a month or two your pain is better it could be the meds, if not you can always stop.

Wishing you the best and glad to see you moving forward!
