Can hydrocodone stop labor?

Hey, I am 39 weeks and 5 days and have been in on and off labor for about a week now and my contractions are getting more and more painful. I have been taking my hydrocodones that were perscribed to me by my dentist for the 2 root canals I had done about a week ago. I take one to three hydrocodone 7.5mlgs a day depending on the tooth pain and lower back pain that is coming with the contractions.
My question is, is it possible that taking the hydrocodones is drawing out labor and making it take longer?
And is the amount of hydrocodone I am taking possibly dangerous to the baby this close to my due date?

Hi congratulations on ur little one being born soon!!! When i was pregnant my dr never gave anything like tht.  I had MAJOR migraine headaches from 3 months on and had darvocet tje reason being is most narcotics pass thru tje placenta to the baby. Im not a dr or nurse but Vicodin may b one of them... if it were me i wouldnt take them unless i got the ok from my OB. I hope this helped.as far as labor being worse i dont see how but again im not a dr. I would ask ur OB if its ok to take just to b safe :) good luck!!!

As long as you are taking them as prescribed and only for pain, then there is no risk to your baby. Doctors often prescribe them to pregnant women for various reasons. And no, it will not prolong your labor.

I would discuss this with your OB as they know your history.  Is this your first baby?

Yes this is my first baby. I have been having contactions all day, and they are getting REALLY painful. I already went into the hospital because I thought I was in labor but I was only 2cms dilated still. I've lost my mucas plug 2 weeks ago and I've been having a creamy discharge all day. My water has not broke yet. I don't know when I should actually go into the hospital because I REALLY don't want to waist my time and go in and find out I'm still only 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. Is there any way to tell if its real labor?

If your contractions are getting REALLY painful, it sounds like labour to me.  You should go to the hospital.  Best of luck to you and your maybe.  Make sure you tell them all the meds that you have been taking.  I wish you all the best.

It has been a very long time since I had a baby, but I want to tell you that labor can progress very quickly sometimes, even if it is your first baby.   I had a friend who barely made it to the hospital in time to have her first.   I was there forever (went when my water broke) and ended up having a c section.

Like Pat said, go have it checked.   Better to be safe than sorry.    And congratulations on your baby.
