5-HTP

Morning everyone....hope your weekend is going well..

I just started taking a supplement with 5-HTP in it yesterdsy....an I have to say I felt really good all day....happier than I have felt in a while...

I would really appreciate getting some feedback from individuals who are or haved used 5-HTP and what their experience has been using it....

Also has anyone tried or is currently using sam e?

Any  feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I've found it works immediately. In fact I take it in the morning and don't sleep much that night and it suppresses appetite, which I'm not looking for, but it does seem to be a side effect for me. I see other people using it to sleep! It's odd. I get an up and anti depressive effect.

As i said earlier it doesn't and won't work for everyone. Some people don't respond to it and others just have far too much chemical damage done to their brains and need a powerful antidepressant. If it works for her than I would keep using it. Better than getting on another highly addicting substance.

I don't wanna be the party pooper. But I have tried 5-HTP, as an attempt to relieve withdrawls from coming off Oxycodone. I honestly didn't find any relief, or satisfaction from taking them. I used them for a good month and just gave up. I wasn't looking or expecting a great deal of relief, but again just through my experience, I never seemed to find the slightest change in mood, behavior, emotions...etc...

Have you tried St John's wort? It contains tiptoe weed which is really good for depression. Another good one you may like is l tyrosine it's not really known for depression but gives u energy and uplifts my mood which helps with depression. Do you take the 5htp at night or in the morning? I have to take it midday or else I get to tired.

Hi angelina...
I don't have any personal experience with either of the supplements you mentioned...Just wanted to give you kudos for your hard work in solving your health issues in a holistic way.  I know it takes a lot of research and trial/error to find out what is going to work for you...I promise it's worth it and so are you...

5htp basically is used for those who have low levels or seratonin. It converts to melatonin after about 8 hours and this is why it can also help you sleep. Sam e works differently on the brain is not focused on just seratonin but also increases many other chemicals including dopamine. I personally had a better experience with 5htp and trust me I've tried every natural substance none to man for depression. There are several studies that show that sam-e works for some people just as well as antidepressants such as prozac. For others these naturals don't work at all and they need a real punch to get their brain working efficiently again. There are tests that you can have done that will show which chemicals you are lacking and how much. Typically for a opiate abuser our brains are low of both seratonin and dopamine. So 5htp tends to be the one most of us use.

Thank you....this is the second day I've taken it and I have noticed a difference in my mood..I guess it could also be from finally getting some sleep this past week....

What about sam e? I bought some of that too any experience with that one?

I have used it many times and found it does help a little. It does take a few days before it takes effect so you may be experiencing more or a placebo effect or just a good day. It converts to melatonin at the end so it can help you sleep too. Hope u keep feeling good
