Olanzapine / zyprexa for opiate withdrawal??

Hi,
I was recently prescribed olanzapine for opiate withdrawal. My doctor gave me this so it wouldn't look sketchy on my parent's insurance bill and its
not addictive. The things my doctor told me and the things my pharmacist aren't really the same. What can I expect? Can anyone help?

Not really accurate. Though I agee every body is different Gabapetin which is safe to use up to doses of 2400mg a day will stop WDs in their tracks. When I say safe to use I am speaking from the consult of a Yale MD neurologist.

Not that it's without side effects which are very temporary since after 3-4 days you don't need anymore Gabapetin and the WD's are gone. Not only this but Gabapetin has over a 80% success rate in treating RLS and chronic nerve pain.
Sure their is always someone that likes to find fault but I like many others have went through detox after heavy opiate use and experience not a single WDs

There is no magic pill or cure for w/ds unfortunately and sometimes, people make choices to take medications that can cause other problems (like Oxy mentioned) or they take high doses of a medication to stave off w.ds that also cause risks.

There are some meds that can help symptomatically treat w/ds that are pretty low risk and non addictive. To look for something to take it away completely though just isn't realistic.

It's definitely good to work with your doctor through the process, and if you can, taper down to a low dose.  That in itself helps manage w/d pretty well if done properly.

Good luck!

When the physicians were bringing me off my high Xanax dose (ten years ago) I was put on Zyprexa. It was like a miracle. Anxiety gone, slept good, amazing.
But I happen to beone of the unfortunate few that began to suffer from Tardive Dyskinesia or involuntary muscle movements. My lower lip would tremble and go crazy even while talking. Scared me, since I then read that such side effects can be irreversible-permanent. I quit Zyprexa.
I will say it again, this is not guaranteed to happen to everybody. But Zyprexa has recently gotten some bad press in Canada and parts of Europe. It is also a billion dollar a year top earner for the company that makes it.
Some of my fingers tremble now, uncontrolled. Zyprexa, idk
If you have just started Zyprexa, read up on it please!

I would ditch it and try Gabapetin as it is a magic pill tor opiate WD's. Not only myself but ton's of addicts stopped WD's dead cold with it.  A anti-psychotic drug like your doctor gave you may help you sleep but alsoichael

Hi there! I have heard a few people say they used this drug to aid with detox. It is an anti-psychotic drug that is usually used for people suffering from schizophrenia and other psychological disorders. It's not addictive per se, but it is like most psych drugs and  once our bodies become used to taking it, we must wean ourselves off of it. I suppose that there could be an abuse potential there. We are addicts and can find a way to abuse just about anything. I have no experience with this drug personally and I don't know how effective it is at relieving or reducing detox symptoms. I do know that this is a drug with some very nasty side effects. Do some research on it before you start taking it and really weigh the benefit vs. risk. (Always a very good idea when starting a new drug.) I hope that you are able to feel better soon. Remember that there is no magic cure for opiate withdrawls. We just have to go through it. If you decide to pass on this drug and go the natural route, let us know. There are all kinds of vitamins, supplements , and just little 'tricks' that can help ease your suffering  some. Best of luck to you!
