Day 1 Opiate Free!

Day one of the rest of my life being opiate free!  It has been a long road getting to this point, but I am so thankful it is finally here.  Yes it's painful, but it's a welcomed feeling at the same time as I know where I am heading.  All the sources for opiates have been eliminated (pharmacies informed, doctors informed, medication gone etc) so all my past "fall backs" have been removed.  Kyle from this forum was the one who pushed me towards cutting ALL means of getting the drugs (as well as contacting the pharmacies to stop the refills) and that was the biggest game changer of all.   With every means to get the drug cut off there is no longer that little devil that is in the back of my mind knowing.........if things get really bad I just call here... or see this doc....or go to this pain clinic etc.  They are all gone now!  I faxed, email, wrote letters, had one on one visits and every other method I could think of to block the means of access.   It was hard at first but once I talked to the first pharmacist it was actually motivating.  The pharmacist even commended me on taking the RIGHT steps and even said "Congratulations" at the end of our conversation.  Talk about getting the ball rolling!   I am hoping I can help "pay it forward" to others and that the guidance I have been given can also help someone else in need and get them on the way to freedom.

Dont forget the dentist!!  I told all of the health care field about me.  I had to do that as i know how my addict brain works too!!  It was very liberating for me when i did that.  My pharmacist still asks me how many days!!

Thanks Sara.  I know.... Kyle's comment did ruffle me a bit but only because I do believe people can quite by many different methods and what works for one might not work for another.  In my case the cutting all access to doctors as well as pharmacies was exactly what I needed.  I know I can do it even without doing those steps, but the problem is..... RETURNING to those doctors and pharmacies in the future, or at least knowing I had a means of still getting the drugs, was a bigger stumbling block than I was aware of.  Though I had no intention of using again I never really "laid everything to rest" type decision.  (did that make sense??)   Deciding to quit for good, but then following up that decision with terminating ALL doctors and ALL pharmacies really made it so much stronger and true to myself.  It also kicked the little demon that knew all my back door tricks out the door!  NO MORE DOORS!   HA!   Thanks!

It really is. The emotional support I get here takes care of me wherever I am. It's great!!! Plus we find our emotions coming back that we didn't even realize we had lost.  This place has really opened my eyes to a lot but it also carries me. Now I feel like if ( which I won't) I were to mess up not only am I letting myself down I'm letting everyone down here. So this place has been great... It does get a little hard when u want an answer now... But eventually people respond. Just stay strong stay busy. And post when u need to !!! Good luck!!!

Thanks IBKleen.   I wont use!  I'm done!
I agree with your words of "you have to give it away to keep it".   I have a saying near my desk that says "If you continually give....you will continually have".    I strongly believe in that saying!

Congratulations! Be proud of your decision and keep going forward. You may have set backs (mental) and good days too and if you give it time it will balance out. No matter what happens just don't use.

You have to give it away to keep it so stick around help others begin their journey. It will help you to stay clean.
