I have had three epidural in my neck what a difference after...It last about 6 months for me...Much better than drugs...Hugs
To add: It is not an epidural with cortisol, etc. Just a numbing agent like when dentist gives you freezing. Lasts 3 days only!
I've had 3 epidural steroid injections on the herniated side of my lower back and a nerve block on the sacrum/pelvic side of my lower back. The ESIs really put the herniated disc to sleep long enough for it to slowly dissolve away from my nerve; they worked! The nerve block is amazing. It was 3 years ago. If I stand still long enough the entire outer side of my left leg will just go numb, but the pain has gone down to just a burning right in the problem area, rather than the excruciating pain I was having before the procedure. So that was helpful also.
Relax! Don't over-think the procedure. Your doctor will absolutely see to it that you're comfortable throughout the whole thing. I've been there 4 times and the whole procedure was a non issue. The issue was if it was going to help. Those pain specialists really know what works and what doesn't. They're amazing. I'm looking forward to hearing from you a couple days after to see how your doing...
Ive had the injections in my Thoracic Spine. Worked really well me for. I guess the risks would be if the doc doesn't disinfect properly there could be infection. The gains....pain free. Also, I didn't have any pain at my injection sites after the procedures.
Good luck with yours!
I have had 2 in my neck. I was put in a twilight for the procedure so I didn't really feel much but afterwards I did have a good amount of pain from the injection but just for a day or two. After that I felt so much better. My husband also has a very bad back and has had 5 shots in his back... They help him almost immediately and last for a while. Hopefully it will work well for you.... Good luck!
