Do you have a doctor appointment this week so you can discuss this with your doctor? I don't know anything about Xanax so dont know why your fingers would tingle or if that is a high dose. Also, Ricart and I both asked if you had told your doctor about the hydro addiction. Would hate to see you go thru all this again!
I take 1.0 mg 3x a day. Been doing that since April. I wait til my fingers start to single.
Hey ! great job on your days ! ;) You have proven you can do this.
Please be careful with the xanax. The above posters pretty much said it all about that. They are probably actually creating most of the anxiety you are having now. As addicts we have to live free of any mind altering substances and while the hydro is kind of like a magic bullet the xanax kind of hits the brain like a shotgun dulling our emotions and also our decision making and reasoning abilities. The people who I know (non addicts)that have panic attacks and anxiety only take the xanax as a rescue med and they don't take it every day to cope with life or to manage their low to mid grade anxiety.
Have you spoken with your doctor and told him no more hydro and that you are an addict trying to recover ? I think you said you have an appointment this week right ? I,as said above, would hate to see you disappear from here again only to return in a week or so withdrawing once again. This is the most important thing to tend to right now . Let us know that you read our comments and tell us what you are going to do ok?
again great job on those days !! ;)
Anxiety is a common symptom of detox, and it can stick around for a while during the time it is improving. With time, it WILL improve. How long have you been on the Xanax, how much do you take and how often?
Xanax can be a very effective anxiolytic, but the one problem with it is tolerance, which can lead to an exacerbation of anxiety. If you've been regularly taking the Xanax a few times a day for a while now (even a few weeks), the Xanax may be doing more harm than good. Xanax is short acting, it's onset of action is fast, as it's designed primarily as a "rescue" med to be taken "as needed", but as fast as it starts working, it's gone. It doesn't stay at peak effect for long, and is metabolized quickly. What often happens after regular dosing of Xanax is that people start experiencing increased anxiety in between doses, a kind of roller coaster effect if you will.
I would recommend soon making a plan to cut back or discontinue the Xanax with your doctor, or in the least, be sure you're ONLY taking it AS NEEDED rather than regularly. If taken strictly PRN, just here and there, tolerance and dependency aren't an issue.
Most importantly, try to find some ways to cope with the anxiety, because while anti-anxiety meds can be helpful as PART of a treatment regimen, it isn't a cure. The faster you can find alternate ways to cope, the better, as you don't want to fall back into that pattern of "needing" a medication to feel a certain way, you know?
Good luck to you!
Hang in there.
Am responding to bump this post up as I don't know much about xanax. I usually have to take deep breaths when I feel anxiety coming on as I don't trust myself with any anxiety meds! Congrats on your clean time from the hydros. I hope you have now told your new doctor about your addiction so that you dont have to go thru withdrawals again!
