pregnancy and oxycodone

Hi!

I have a question that has been weighing on my shoulders for so long. Here goes, I am 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and I have been on oxycodone for years. My dr. knows I am pregnant and is helping me wean off. I am down to about 5mg a day or everyother day. I used to take 30-40 mg a day though. Today I was in extreme pain and took 20mg, but besides today thats the most I have taken in months. I am so scared that the baby is going to be deformed and have problems. I am also so scared of miscarriage, I don't want to loose the baby! I am so happy about being pregnant. I lie awake feeling so guilty about what I have done. Does anyone know anyone in the same situation who had ok results? Or anyone know a baby born with defects? I will be off completely by the next week or two. Please help, any answers would be so helpful!

I took tylenol 3 for about 5 months of my pregnancy (prescribed) and my daughter was born healthy. As long as you are under your doctor's care and he is safely weaning you off, I think you'll be just fine. Detoxing in early pregnancy is worse than weaning off of them. Opiates are a class c drug in pregnancy, which means they haven't been tested thoroghly. My doctor, who prescribed my tylenols told me that opiates don't have a lot of negative effects on babies. It's the withdraw that hurts them. Don't stress out, your doctor is doing the right thing.

And yet Jamie is NOT a drug addict, and I'm betting there was nothing at all wrong with her baby since she would have been weaned off looong before the baby was born...the last trimester & the end of pregnancy is the only time you can give birth to a baby who is addicted...why are you answering this question?

I'm amazed at how many people don't realize that if YOU are a drug addict, and there's a baby inside you, then the baby becomes a drug addict...it's such a simple thing to understand. When the woman has an opiate addiction and doesn't stop while pregnant, the baby is born into withdrawals, and can die.

I think to this be tough and hard to give advice to. If it were me I would stop as much as I could for the sake of your baby. Doctors don't know everything and the effects on your baby may be harmful and may be not. I would ask your doctor about detoxing or taking a lower dosage. I hope that helps

Kind regards
Alex

my friend has been on hydrocodine for the last 8months and she 6months pregnant and she cant stop, she was worried about the same thing, but she went to the doctor last week and they know shes been taking alot i mean alot of vics and everything seem to be ok with her baby the only thing they told her is she should try to get off before she has it cause the baby wil be the one to go through the withdrawals.....so do the best you can and dont think something will be wrong just think positive i know its hard god know i know.....but the more negative you think negative will happen so BE positive,......
