I have been struggling with pain pills for 8 years.  I've beeen to rehab, NA, therapy...i have not been able to keep any clean time.  I am going on suboxone tomorrow and was hoping to get some information from others on it or those who know about it.

I varied my use to what was available - if i had open access- about 25percs a day- lately its been less b/c i don't have the connections i used to (told my old dealer never to contact me again the last time i got clean (8 mos ago) (at that point i was using about 4 80mg oxy's a day & spending more money than i had to get them)- then relpased after about 100 days and regretted the decsion passionatley- so the l used 3 percs last night - before that was last wed. about 10.  i know about the withdrawl - have told my doc everything- I'm glad to hear that subox can help with what i struggle with. -

Good plan. I will assume that you are still on the pills? I guess that you know that you have to be in withdrawals when you go on the Sub?

It helped me to get past the withdrawals, which would have been near impossible for me because of other medical problems. I did a quick detox with it, 16 days, and for that it was wonderful. Some need it short-term, some need it longer and wean off. Just be careful, as I always tell everyone. Do your homework and make certain that you understand what you are doing and make certain that you have a plan.

hey there ... good for you wanting to get off the pills!!!!  I am currently on suboxone and found it very helpful for me and my situation .. I started in April of this year .. some will say that you should only be on it short term, but you'll do what you have to do .. i know for myself short term, 10 to even 30 days would not of been enough for me .. It prevents w/d's and the cravings .. I will taper another 4mg next month.  My dr had me start out at 16mg, taking a 1/2 8mg tab every 45 min until i felt normal, which after 16mg i still did not feel normal and even gave it almost 2 days, put me on 24mgs of it and i was fine ...
Everybody's body is different and metabolizes things differently .. for one of my friends he wz taking up to 30 vicondins a day and was off  the sub w/in 10 days and is only taking a 1/4 of a pill at nite ... so ...

What were you taking? How many and for how long?  

Did they tell you that you have to be in w/drawals to start suboxone?

My plan is to see if it helps I guess.  I have really low motivation since my addiction started (except when i'm using) so from what i have heard from others- it helps with that a lot.  also, my cravings are always there- if i'm anywhere near a med. cabinet i'm in it looking for pills- if i'm anywhere near a house i haven't already raided i'm "going to the bathroom" to look for pills.  I have a dealer (she's crazy and unreliable) but occasionally will come through...i need something that will stop using from being an option- i know about replacing one drug for another & do have a little fear around that- but I've talked with my NA sponsor - my parents and my therapist.  I plan on being honest and open about where i'm at with subox,.  that's my plan...

May I ask you a question?

You mentioned that fact that you cannot sustain clean time over the past 8 yrs of addiction what do you think has been your strongest difficulty in your battle to stay clean?

What is your plan with the Suboxone? If you have spoken to the doctor, did he give you any indication as to his plan?
